Hey bookworm friends! It’s been a little while since I’ve joined into Top Ten Tuesday but I have such a soft spot for this week’s TTTopic of animal companions. There’s just no way I’d miss out on that even though I’ve already made a similar list in the past. Never fear, I always keep an eye out for cute critters as I read so here are 10 more animal companions in my literary Menagerie!
Link-ups

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Don’t forget to check out her post and link up!
Animal Companions from MG & YA Books

Bovril – (From Leviathan series) by Scott Westerfeld. Review.
Bovril is a fabricated creature called a perspicacious loris because he’s very observant and clever.

⟡
Tazza – (Also from Leviathan series) by Scott Westerfeld.
Tazza is a pet thylacine, or tasmanian tiger which is an extinct animal. They were a carnivorous marsupial native to Australia and Tasmania and it’s because of this series that I even learned they ever existed!
⟡
Khazmarev – (From Phoenix Heart series) by Sarah K. L. Wilson.
Khaz is the main character’s phoenix in this series. He is born every night and dies again when the sun comes up.
⟡
Sprout – (From Korgi) by Christian Slade.
The adventures in Korgi follow Sprout, the magical corgi pup and his woodfolk friend, Ivy.
⟡
Kodi – (From Kodi) by Jared Cullum. Review.
Kodi is a Kodiak Bear who befriends a little girl in this middle grade graphic novel.
⟡
Muffin – (From The Ghostkeeper) by Johanna Taylor.
Muffin is a ghost cat and being a ghost does not stop him from causing mischief!

Animal Companions from Adult Books

Izzy – (From Cello’s Gate) by Maurice Africh. Review.
Izzy is an interesting animal companion because she’s a goma baby. Gomas are sort of ape-like creature made of rocks and can burrow into the earth. She’s also adorable and loves to nap in someone’s arms when she gets tired.
⟡
Brindle – (From Swordheart) by T. Kingfisher.
The side character of Brindle is delightful; he’s a gnole ox-cart driver and so funny. Gnoles in this world are kind of badger-like creatures.
⟡
Raise – (From The Cybernetic Tea Shop) by Meredith Katz. Review.
Raise is a hummingbird AI companion in this cozy cyberpunk-esque world.
⟡
Burian – (From Adrift in Currents Clean and Clear) by Seanan McGuire. Review.
The young turtle named Burian is Nadya’s companion in Belyyreka.
Let’s chat in the comments!
Have you met any of these animal companions yet? Or, please tell me about your reading buddies if you have any 🐶😺🖤!
What an interesting list of companions! I’ve only read one of these, Adrft in Currents Clean and Clear, but its a great choice, and Burian is a favorite character of mine😁
Thank You 🥰 & I’m so glad you loved Burian too, I really wish we got more of him though!
Tazza is so cute!
The book had lovely illustrations of thylacines but I also definitely looked them up and they do look cute and also kind of delightfully strange! 🙂
I want to read Korgi and The Ghostkeeper now!
Korgi is cute with silly humour and The Ghostkeeper was a lot darker than I was expecting but also so so lovely! 🖤
You have some great variety here! I agree that Burian is a favorite animal companion character. 🙂
Thank you, I definitely had to dig deep for some of these haha! I love that you loved Burian too! 🐢🖤
I’m not familiar with any of these books, but the animals you describe sound like wonderful characters!
Happy TTT!

They really are delightful characters and thank you for visiting my blog! 🙂
I haven’t met any of these animals companions but what a terrific selection!
Thanks for popping by my TTT earlier.
Thank you, Joanne 😄! And my pleasure!
Now I wish I hadn’t given away the Scott Westerfield books, I didn’t know they had animals in them!! Ohh well lol! Thanks for dropping by my post!
Oh nooo haha that’s too bad but oh well I’m sure you have a ton of other great books to give your attention to 🙂 My pleasure.
Great list. I love Seannan McGuire, really need to get caught up on the Wayward Children series!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Thank you! & Me too, I really need to get caught up on everything that isn’t Wayward Children! 😜 lol.
Bovril! 🙂
Gotta love Bovril! 🙂
Ooh yay I love hearing about animal companions. And what a fun sounding one to start with, a clever Ottery looking creature. I had no clue that book had illustrations either. The other from the series sounds fascinating too. I thought the corgi looked sweet when you mentioned the book before. Omg that Muffin illustration is perfect. I’ve had cats literally do that before. If they want to go out but can’t for whatever reason then I swear they misbehave intentionally by knocking things over or clawing the furniture 😅
Omg Izzy sounds adorable 😍 and a companion like that sounds like another reason to read the book. I get the impression that T. Kingfisher has a lot of animal companions that are going to charm me.
