Dog-Sitting & A DNF │#IMWAYR + Monday Music #2

Hey bookworm friends, It’s Monday again and I’m dog-sitting for my parents this week. I’m happy to spend time with my fur brother but I’m tired because we haven’t been sleeping well. The first night, we woke up to furious barking because two huge coyotes were walking down our street at 5 am. NO THANK YOU 😱!! Whisky was being a very good boy protecting the house; I couldn’t even be mad. Since I have not been reading much this week, this installment of #IMWAYR is not particularly thrilling.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Just Finished

DNF

I started reading the Webcomic Stand Still, Stay Silent this week. Fortunately, I didn’t get very far before I learned the creator suddenly turned Evangelical during the pandemic and didn’t finish the story. Therefore, there’s no point in continuing if I’m only going to be disappointed. Nice save on that one, DNF’ed immediately.

Up Next

Both Masquerade and The Hemlock Queen are holds I’ve been waiting for and as luck would have it they’ve arrived at the same time.

Music Monday

Today’s song for Music Monday is called We Don’t Wanna Be No Saints by Powerwolf. I’ve been listening to them for years and their new album came out at the end of July so I’m excited to have new songs by them! This one is catchy, I’ve been singing it since I first listened to it this morning, so it went right onto my ‘Blasphemy Bops’ playlist 🤣

  1. Ugh, I know what you mean about coyotes. I dogsit for my best friend out in the country sometimes, and coyotes like to come sniffing around because of her and her sister’s cattle operation. Her dogs go beserk!

Too bad about that stalled web comic; I like the art style!

Looking at my YT playlist, I’ve been listening to “I”ll Cover You” from RENT, as well as the “Mon Oncle” soundtrack — the latter goes well with SDV!

    1. Yeah it’s actually quite terrifying and we’re not even in the countryside, just there’s a big ravine that backs up into the houses in the neighbourhood so the wildlife is BUSY (which can be super cool or very not at all). OH geez I hope they never manage to catch any cattle :S

I love the art-style too and it came recommended to me by a friend but I honestly don’t have the time or patience to commit a chunk of time to a story I now know ends abruptly/not with the care that was shown to the rest of the project. 🙁

Oh yess I’m happy for you to share your current listens with me, I love discovering new music! 😁 I’ll go check out “Mon Oncle” and also, I keep meaning to watch Rent and have not yet!!! 🙁

  2. I can’t even imagine coyotes walking down your street at night. We don’t have coyotes thank goodness here in NZ. All the best for better sleep and good reading.

    1. Thank goodness you haven’t encountered any haha. I typically enjoy seeing wild animals around but these guys I only appreciate at a far, very far distance. Thanks, Kathryn! 🙂

  3. Oh wow getting woken up at 5am by mad barking must be pretty alarming as you immediately wonder what’s going on. Hopefully you won’t get anymore coyotes the rest of the time your dog sitting. Does Cheeto get on well with Whisky?

I’m glad you realised the Web comic got discontinued before you got too far into it as it would have been so frustrating otherwise.

I really hope you enjoy Hemlock Queen 🤞 and I’ll be interesting in hearing how you find Masquerade too. I’ve forgotten what it’s about 🙈 but I know it’s on my TBR and I adore the cover.

Music wise I haven’t heard of this band either 😂 maybe I will the third time around.

    1. That’s exactly it, my sleeping brain had no idea what was going on and I had to go grab my glasses to see what the barking was all about and then I was like “Oh you can keep barking, good job 😂” And then I couldn’t go back to sleep because I realized that I didn’t know what to do if I encountered them while I was walking, and panicked lol.

Anyways yeah they get along fine, they co-exist together peacefully though they don’t really play together much or cuddle. But they do defend each other and if one is angry the other one will also get angry at whatever it is.

Yeah, me too. I only realized as I looked it up to make this post 😂

Yes me to thank you, I will write a review for Masquerade because it’s an ARC and I might for Hemlock Queen too but I am not sure yet.

Haha that’s okay, I’ll try to change things up a bit more for next time, I think I’ll just go by whatever I’m listening or discovering at the moment.

      1. Yes it’s so disorientating and alarming. And when your mind starts spinning like that it’s awful and so hard to switch off. Have you found out what to do now?

That’s good to hear and sweet that they like to defend each other like that. It’s a shame they don’t play together as it’s always lovely to see but some dogs don’t tend to do that over much.

Ah right. Good thing you had to then.

I’ll keep an eye out for it then. And hope that you enjoy both of them, whether you review Hemlock Queen or not.

Do whatever works best for you and whatever you want to share most 🥰

        1. Noooo I still haven’t found out, I keep thinking I should look it up but I’ve been busy/distracted. Ok I JUST looked it up: So apparently make eye contact, yell in a deep voice, if they approach you walk away slowly (never looking away from them) towards buildings or human activity. OH and do not run away. That’s it, I was hoping they would give more info. But that’s good to know regardless.

Yeah I think Whisky wants to play rough and he knows he can’t really do that with Cheeto and he’s also super Independent whereas Cheeto is a velcro dog, just super opposite temperaments.

Thank you, on both counts 🥰♥!!!

          1. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about things like that here. I kind of guessed the no running part as I’m sure I’ve heard that applied to other animal encounters as it can trigger their hunting instincts. I didn’t have a clue about the eye contact aspect though. Hopefully you won’t encounter any though as I’d imagine they tend to stay away more when it’s busier in the day.

Makes sense. One of my sisters dogs is more interested in cuddles than playing and kind of looks at ours sometimes like ‘I’m not sure how to join in’ 😂

            💗💗

          2. I’m glad for you too not gonna lie! haha & yes I knew the no running part but I feel like if you’re in that situation it would be SO much effort to stop the gut reaction to just run away even though our brains logically know that’s bad, lol.

hahah that’s so cute, 😂 Wants to play but doesn’t know how, awww.

          3. Yes that’s very true as you’re automatic response is going to be to get away from the situation.

I know 😂 he is a lot smaller than her so maybe that’s why. Although so is my sisters other dog and she plays with her fine.

    1. Yes, I’m just glad the coyotes weren’t around while I was growing up here, they seem to be a recent development. & Oh my gosh racoons can be so naughty, geez! We get them and skunks too, along with deer, fox, and now coyotes. I hope you have a great week too and I hope the raccoons keep their cute hands off your house!

    1. Thank you, they are my loves 🥰🥰 Yes, I totally understand, they are interesting animals, if they weren’t so scary I’d be happier to see them and I definitely don’t want them snacking on any kitties!! Thanks, I have 🙂 Hope you have a good week!

  4. There are coyotes around the area where my parents live, and I’ve enjoyed seeing them from a distance. I don’t like seeing them too closely, though, since a lot of people in that area have barn cats, and the coyotes will go after the cats.

    Your puppers look so cute!

    1. Oh, wow! I am glad you’ve enjoyed seeing them at a distance. For sure, don’t want them getting the barn cats or any small dogs!

      Thanks, Nicole 🥰

  5. Whisky and Cheeto are so cute, and the names are very cool 😁 It would be concerning to wake up to coyotes. Is that a regular occurrence?
I’m sorry you haven’t had much reading time. I recently read Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati, I liked her relationships with other characters in the story overall but wanted more from who she was. How are you enjoying Clytemnestra’s Bind so far?

    1. Haha thanks. My dad likes the drink so he chose the name and Cheeto came with the name when we adopted him. Since he looks like a cheesy snack, we thought ‘why change it?’ 😂

Luckily for me it isn’t a regular occurrence and it hasn’t happened the rest of the time we’ve been here so I’m thinking we were just (un)lucky hehe

Oh nice, that’s interesting, I may read that one eventually but that’s too bad it didn’t deliver exactly what you wanted! I’m liking Clytemnestra’s Bind, I like her as a character a lot, she’s doing her best to survive and protect her children in a really terrible situation. It’s not a relaxing read though because every time Agamemnon opens his mouth my blood boils 😂

  6. I have a hard time with DNF books and usually try to get though them longer than I should. Glad this one was an easy one for you.

Your dogs are beautiful Love their adorable faces!

    Have a great reading week!

    1. I don’t always DNF them this easy to be honest, sometime I torture myself on whether to push on but I’m trying to not push myself anymore haha

      Thank you so much 🐕🖤🐕

I hope you’re having a great reading week as well 🙂
