Summer of Horror Cover Friday: Medieval Horror

Summer of Horror Cover Friday: Medieval Horror

Hey bookworm friends! Another Friday, another set of horror covers for Tammy’s Summer of Horror. I recently read Once Was Willem and loved it so much that I want to read more like that! I love a book with a good medieval setting 🖤 So I went digging through my TBR pile and it turns out there are quite a few medieval horror books on there. Here are some of the covers that have caught my eye, enjoy!

The ones that I most want to read next are Between Two Fires and The Starving Saints. And my favourite covers are Once Was Willem, The Starving Saints again, Pilgrim, and The Chatelaine.

1. Once Was Willem by M. R. Carey – Read
2. Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
3. Howls From The Dark Ages: An Anthology of Medieval Horror Edited by P.L. McMillan & Solomon Forse
4. His Black Tongue by Mitchell Lüthi
5. The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling
6. Pilgrim: A Medieval Horror by Mitchell Lüthi
7. Hellmouth by Giles Kristian
8. The Enterprise of Death by Jesse Bullington
9. Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh
10. The Chatelaine by Kate Heartfield

ICYMI, here are my other Summer of Horror Cover Friday highlights:

  1. This is such a fun category, I don’t think i would have been able to come up with this many books! Between Two Fires is on my TBR, and I’m familiar with Lapvona and The Starving Saints, but the rest are new to me. I will definitely be checking them out😁

Thanks, I’m glad you like this category too and I’m not surprised 😜! I hope that if you try any of these you love them! 😀 🖤

  2. I’m glad you loved Once Was Willem, yay 🥰🥰 I really should have put that, and The Girl With All The Gifts, on my TBR thinking about it 😅

This is a fantastic list too, I’ve just added Pilgrim, Howls From The Dark Ages & The Enterprise Of Death to my TBR. I added Lapvona earlier this year after seeing a review on Instagram but forgot all about it whilst making this list 🙈 reviews have also convinced me to add Between Two Fires to my TBR as well, particularly as its blurb sounds fantastic 😍 I think The Chatelaine is on my TBR too although I didn’t realise that one was horror lol.

My favourite covers are Once Was Willem & The Chatelaine although I do also love Pilgrim too, it kind of reminds me of a tarot card.

I also have a potential title for you within the genre Mere by Danielle Giles. I was on the verge of including it on my TBR but I wasn’t sure if the horror or historical vibes would be stronger. It definitely intrigued me though.

I hope you enjoy all of these whenever you get to them 🥰

Thank you and I’m excited to try other books by that author! & I’ve heard good things about The Girl With All The Gifts.
Oh I’m glad you like this topic of this list too and that you found titles to add to your TBR 🖤. I’m not surprised to hear The Chatelaine is on your tbr too haha 😀
Yes I can see how Pilgrim would remind you of a Tarot card! and you picked such great covers!
Ohh interesting, I just read the synopsis for Mere and it sounds fantastic, added it to my TBR now. Thanks so much for the rec 🙂
      Thanks :D!!!

      • I hope you enjoy whatever one you try next and that’s good to hear. It definitely added to my TBR 😂 such a clever category to come up with too.
I’m glad you can see the resemblance 😅
Yay I’m glad it appealed to you too. I thought it sounded fitting given the theme for this list. I’ll let you know if I find/think of any others.

  3. I just heard about Lapvona the other day. It definitely has me curious. I am dying to read The Starving Saints. It’s gotten a lot of great reviews. Thanks for sharing these!

Oh awesome, Lapvona has been on my radar for a while but I was on the fence on if I should add it to my tbr for a while but ultimately decided I should try to be brave lmao & Yess I’ve been dying to try The Starving Saints too, I hope you love any that you try and thanks for checking out my list 🙂 !

  4. I haven’t read any of them, horror in general is not my cup of tea, but I have Once Was Willem on my TBR all the same and I have to say that I am intrigued by The Starving Saints, even if I strongly suspect that that one won’t work for me. But is still sounds fascinating!
And all the covers are beautiful!! *_*

    • Veronica

That’s super fair! Well in that case I hope that you end up loving Once Was Willem if you do read it 😀 And you might be right but if you do give The Starving Saints a try then I hope it surprises you lol 🙂 Either way I agree, so many pretty covers & thanks for popping by Susy 🖤
