Hey bookworm friends, I know this week has been difficult for so many of us and scary times are ahead. I’m in Canada but I feel my neighbours’ rage and we are not immune from much of the same damaging rhetoric being used by politicians. Like many others, I’ve been in low spirits all week but what has been bringing me comfort and solace is, as always, books. Books are power, empathy and liberation. Books are everything. So read everything they don’t want you to read and read whatever brings you joy, especially if people are trying to ban it. 🖤 For now, here’s what I’m currently reading: It’s #IMWAYR + Music Monday!

Just Finished
I finished The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera, which was my first read for #SciFiMonth2024! I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it.
Currently Reading
Last #IMWAYR I mentioned Lolly Willowes was up next and now I’ve been slowly reading it along with the audiobook. I’m not connecting to it as much as I wanted to but it’s short so I’m going to finish it. I’m still in a sci-fi mood after finishing Last Cuentista so I started The Original, which is a short audiobook and very adventurous and fast-paced. Perfect to keep me company while I do my chores! And I’ve got a book tour coming up later this month for Kavithri so I’ve just started that one too!
Up Next
Next up I’m planning on going back to Blood Price. I had started it already but had to put it on hold because books with hard deadlines (such as tours) have priority. But I intend to go back to it as soon as possible; what I read so far was great!

For this week’s Music Monday, I thought I’d try to pick a song that fits within the Sci-Fi theme so I started browsing through my Industrial playlist. When I saw Deeper Beyond the Machines by The Synthetic Dream Foundation I knew I had it because every time I hear this song, I feel like it belongs in a science fiction movie! Plus the fractal alien spaceship design of the music video is entrancing.

Hopefully you’ll have some kind of fun activities to lift your mood soon 🤞 I’m definitely about to check out your review for The Last Cuentista, that cover is just impossible to resist 😍 I’m sorry to hear that you’re not connecting to Lolly, it’s so frustrating when that happens. Hopefully you’ll have better luck with your other reads. And I definitely get the sci fi vibes with that song. I don’t actually think I’d have anything suited to the genre on my playlist 🤔

That’s a shame. I think sometimes it can be hard to connect to older books depending on their writing style. At least there are lots of other witchy books out there.
It’s a pretty tricky genre to find songs for I’d imagine.

It has indeed been *quite* a week! I’m on the other side of the globe but the rage and roiling emotions have been pervasive (even over the interwebs) and my heart breaks for all my friends who suffer as a consequence of the election. 😔 Very sad times… But I love your message and yes, books are everything! Yeah for sure, the world is a lot smaller than it seems as we’re all interconnected so I totally understand and frankly rage and heartbreak are totally valid reactions to all of this ♥ Thank you, Dini🥰 So far I am enjoying Kavithri a lot even though it’s so dark and grim and violent, like geez I’m gonna need a light read after that. But then I’ll be ready for Blood Price again (i’m slighltly annoyed I had to pause reading it but oh well it’s not gong anywhere). I hope you have a lovely rest of your week too!
