It’s Monday, Let’s Catch Up │#11

Hey bookworm friends. I hope you all had a lovely and restful weekend. The last couple of weeks have been long and this was the first weekend in a great while with zero plans. So I spent most of it playing video games with my husband. No reading got done but I have no regrets! 😊 And now It’s Monday, Let’s Catch up!

Music Monday

The two songs I’m sharing today are both ones I discovered since my last #IMWAYR post. When I found out that AFI has a new album out I got excited because I used to listen to them. I hadn’t kept up with them but I’m really impressed with how versatile and talented they are in so many various genres. I’ve been listening to Holy Visions a lot. And when I saw Savage Daughters one day, I clicked on it thinking it was a cover of Wyndreth Berginsdottir ‘s Savage Daughter. It’s actually a completely different song but with the same indomitable spirit and I love it!

Album: Silver Bleeds the Black Sun
 Year Released: 2025
Genre: Gothic Rock/ Post-Punk

Savage Daughters by Alexia Evellyn

Album: Dark Side EP
Year Released: 2024
Genre: Pop

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

DNF

I started the audiobook but shortly realized I’d prefer to read it with my eyeballs. It’s such a soft DNF that it’s more of a “Not For Now”. I’m still super interested in picking this up.

Currently Reading

Physical
Immersive

I’m about to finish Someone You Can Build A Nest In and I’m really enjoying it! At the same time I’m buddy reading Illuminae and doing immersive reading for it. Since the format is so visual, I figured I’d listen to the audio at the same time to add another layer to the experience. It’s super paying off because I’m loving the story and the experience, I now understand why I’ve heard so many glowing reviews for this one!

Up Next

I’m not typically a reader of poetry but I was part of the cover reveal for Thistleheart Home and it looks like one I want to try. It comes out on November 23 and I have access to the ARC so I’ll be reading this next.

Stacking The Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, whether it be physical or virtual. Reading Reality posts on Saturdays but you can post any day that works for you— don’t forget to visit the link-up on Saturday to join in on the fun!

This week for Stacking The Shelves I only have one book to add but it’s a fun one! I received the kindest email from an author because I had read and loved one of his books. He saw my blog post and Instagram posts that mentioned how much I enjoyed his book and narration so he sent me the next book in the series along with the audiobook as well! I was astounded and his email made me entire week; now I want to read everything he and his wife write. I already have a bunch of Olivia Atwater’s books on my tbr so hopefully this means I can read them soon too. But first: Echoes of Imperium!

I’m so glad you love those songs and I enjoy doing Music Monday so my pleasure! 😀
Oh nice, so far I am loving Illuminae and I the audio is great, especially as a part of a whole, I don’t know that I you would get the same out of just listening to the audio but if you’re already familiar with the story then perhaps that doesn’t matter so much.

I’ve honestly become such a big fan of immersive reading! And it really is such fun, talk about compulsively readable! 🙂

  2. YAY for the Illumae files! On my second read of the series I did the immersive reading experience as well and it made me love the books so much more. I will say that my favourite (of the story and audio) is the next book and I can’t wait for you to check it out. I hope you love it! 😍 Also, yay for a weekend of video games! That sounds like the perfect way to unwind to me. I hope you have a great week ahead, Veros and happy reading!

Ahh now I am super curious about the second book, so much is happening that I can’t even imagine what the second book will even be about! Thanks, Dini 🥰! I’m so glad you loved the series more on the second go 🙂 ! & Yes it was the perfect chill weekend not gonna lie. I hope you have a great week too and I wish you very happy reading!

Yes me too, I’m really hoping to love it and thank you :D!!

  3. Listening AND reading Illuminae sounds like a smart idea! I’m trying VERY hard to not pick up any more physical copies of books as our house is bursting at the gunnels, but my basic little kindle didn’t cope very well with the different documents so I decided not to persevere with the series. How lovely that Nicholas Atwater sent you a copy of Echoes of the Imperium. I’ve read a couple of Olivia’s books and really enjoyed them, so got hold of an arc and I loved it. I’ll be posting my review on Friday so I hope you enjoy it, too:)).

It’s been paying off so well, and I totally understand space for more books is quite limited in my home too! Thankfully I managed to get Illuminae from the library with no wait list so that was a lucky break. Yeah I can imagine the Kindle not knowing what to do with that formatting, like 🫠.

Oh I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed Olivia’s books in the past and even an ARC that’s awesome!! Thanks for stopping by my blog, Sarah! 🙂

  4. I really enjoyed Echoes of the Imperium! The characters are soooo good! *_* I hope you will love it, too!
And I am so glad that you’re loving Illuminae *_* And the idea of reading it while listening to the audiobook is great! I don’t do audiobooks, but it seems like a big addition to the whole experience!

    • Veronica

I’m so glad you’ve read and enjoyed that one! I can’t wait and I feel like I’ll love it too! 🙂
I finished Illuminae now and loved it so happy I finally read it and I am itching to continue the series! Yes it definitely made the experience even more immersive and fun 🙂
