Music Monday
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?
Just Finished
Recently finished The Enchanted April, it’s been a while since I’ve read a classic so just for that it was a nice break from the usual. Overall, I’m glad I read it despite some questionable 1920’s attitudes that pulled me out of the charm.
Currently Reading

I’m reading Shubeik Lubeik slowly since it’s a really big graphic novel but I’m enjoying it a lot so far. Then I’ve got another graphic novel, I Shall Never Fall In Love, for a buddy read and I am loving the queer Austen vibes! Lastly, listening to The Remarkable Retirement of Edna Fisher and, while it’s kind of fun, it’s not grabbing me as much as I wanted it to but I’m not yet at the mid-point.
Up Next

Both of my Wicked Lovely (book 2) and Infernal Devices (book 3) buddy reads continue on! I’m really indulging myself with re-reads of old teen favourites this year, which is extra special given that I don’t tend to re-read books often.

Stacking The Shelves
Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, whether it be physical or virtual. Reading Reality posts on Saturdays but you can post any day that works for you— don’t forget to visit the link-up on Saturday to join in on the fun!
Besides the books I already mentioned I’m reading, I have a few other current borrows from the library waiting their turn. I also accepted an author request recently and purchased a couple books so I’ve got a satisfactory Stacking The Shelves this week! 😊

Recent Purchases
- The Malevolent Seven by Sebastian de Castell (ebook)
- To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers (paperback)
Let’s chat in the comments!
What are you currently reading? Or, how often do you allow yourself to read old favourites? 🖤
Ooh, is that a new Chambers book?!
I currently have a lot on my plate:
– I’m listening to an audiobook called Baseball when the Grass was Real, an oral history of the 1930s and 1940s in the MLB and Negro Leagues
– I’m halfway through a biography of Ty Cobb I’ve wanted to read for two years. Glad I went for a physical copy.
– I’m 40% through an ebook on the Boston Red Sox’s first year in Fenway park, which opened in 1912.
– and, I need to finish another game warden novel by Paul Doiron. The baseball biography put it to the side.
It was published before the monk and robot duology but it is from 2019 so not that old and a standalone from what I’ve heard!
Oh it does seem like you had a lot on the go, wow. Looks like you’re on a bit of a baseball kick, I didn’t know why Ty Cobb was I had to look it up. Does the physical copy of the biography have pictures? I hope you enjoy all of your reads!
I don’t often re-read either but when I do I thoroughly enjoy the experience. Enjoy yours!
Have a great week!
I am so glad you enjoy your infrequent rereads, me too! & Thanks so much I hope you are having a great week as well :)!
You certainly have the shelves stacked! I am not a big classics reader but I did read The Enchanted April and watched the movie that was based on it. Happy reading.
Definitely stacked! & I don’t read that many classics either but I had been wanting to read The Enchanted April in April so at least I finally sort of did that. & Watched the movie the other day too!
I’m currently reading Mage’s Blood by David Hair, and thoroughly enjoying it.
I love rereading old favourites. And even old not-favourites but books I thoroughly enjoyed. How often? Pretty much as often as I want.
Oh very nice, glad to hear you’re enjoying it! & That’s great, it’s nice to revisit books you enjoy. I often feel like I read too slow to reread books but I’ve stated realizing it’s okay to reread even if you’re not reading something new at least you’re enjoying yourself! 🖤
I am a big fan of rereading, although I haven’t been able to do as much as I’d like lately because All The New Books, lol … I am rereading Jane Austen this year, as part of a year long challenge, which is lovely. And I fully intend to *finally* start my Throne of Glass reread soon!
Ah, yes All The New Books do seem to demand a lot of attention hehe. Yes, I love that you’re rereading Austen this year, how nice! 😀 And okay I hope you enjoy your TOG reread when you do get to it 🙂
I sort of recently added I Shall Never Fall in Love to my Kindle and it looks/sounds really good. I hope you continue enjoying the queer Austen vibes (honestly, sounds so amazing)! 😍 I started reading Chambers’ Wayfarers series last month and I’m excited to continue with the third book soon(ish). Have you read the Wayfarer series? I think I do have To Be Taught if Fortunate, but I can’t remember if it’s connected to the Wayfarers series or it’s a standalone. I hope you enjoy it whenever you get to it though! I’m also keen to read Malevolent Seven. I’ve heard great things about that author. Have a great week ahead, Vero!
I’m loving I Shall Never Fall in Love. It’s kind of an Emma retelling which I love so much and I have a feeling it’s gonna be a 5 star! Oh very nice, the Wayfarers series is one I super want to read as well, sounds so good! Based on what I saw on Goodreads it doesn’t look like it’s part of any series but I’m not 100% sure. Thanks so much! & I keep hearing so many good things about Malevolent Seven also! & I hope you are having a fabulous week, Dini 🥰!
It looks like you had a wonderfully productive morning yay. Those always tend to motivate you so much. I’m sorry to hear about your rug but at least it gave you a good excuse to get a new one like you wanted to.
I never really watch Eurovision as so much of it basically makes me go WTF 😂 but the one you’ve shared does sound catchy. Initially the voice gave me Within Temptation vibes but it got a bit more pop style as it went on.
I’m glad you enjoyed An Enchanted April, other than a few issued. I’m glad you’re enjoying both of your graphic novels and hope the other book picks up plot wise 🤞
I’m looking forward to carrying on with our buddy read 🥰 how lovely that you’re getting to so many old favourites with them this year too. Must be very nostalgic, especially if they keep staying enjoyable.
Ooh it looks like you have lots of great books to get to as well. Definitely let me know how you get on with Once Was Willem. I’m hoping to finally start that Becky Chambers series this year and I’m very curious about The Malevolent Seven. Did you ever read Spellslinger by the author?
Yeah I agree, those types of mornings always feel so good! 🙂 Haha thank you, I suppose Cheeto said “IT’S TIME!” 🤣
Hahah I get that reaction whenever I see some of the songs too, I feel like it’s a mixed bag of what the heck am I listening to and actually catchy songs lol I can definitely see what you mean by her having a similar tone to her voice as Sharon. & I thought that maybe by picking a European song I’d have a higher chance of maybe you knowing it but I don’t know if that’s accurate 😅
Yeah, books from different eras can be difficult for me in terms of some problematic moments. Like, there was a line in it that a husband says to his wife something akin to “You acted like a man” as a compliment when he meant she acted honorably or some other less gross way of saying it. And I just do not have patience for some stuff like that. But otherwise it was mostly enjoyable.
Me too, yay 🥰Yes it’s a year of favourites and I’m loving it!
I will let you know, I started Once Was Willem today. And no I have not read Spellslinger or anything by that author, have you? & I am excited for you to try Becky Chambers!
Great looking assortment of books. I have some of that Cassandra Clare series on my TBR mountain. They have been there for years, but I do hope to get to them someday. Since they are print copies instead of my preferred Kindle copies, it might take a bit longer to get to them. Thanks for visiting my blog. Happy reading!
Thanks, Kathy 🙂 I love that you call it your TBR mountain, what an appropriate name! And I hope you like the Shadowhunters series if you do try it 🙂 Ah, that is understandable but I will keep my fingers crossed that you like it anyways 🙂 My pleasure and happy reading to you too!
Great list of books. I rarely re-read books. Mainly because I have so many new books waiting on my TBR. I hope you enjoy your books.
Thanks, Yvonne! & Yes I can relate to that, I tend to focus on reading ones I haven’t read before which is why I kind of surprised myself! But I’m going with the flow haha 🙂
