Hey bookworm friends, my Monday posts will be a catch-up on what I’m currently reading and what’s coming next. I also found the Music Monday meme on Queen’s Book Asylum and it felt so right for me. I don’t know how active this meme is but I love finding new songs and maybe I’ll find some bookish friends with similar tastes in music while I’m at itđ!
I’ll be linking up with Kathryn @ The Book Date for It’s Monday What Are You Reading? #IMWAYR

I’ve had the ARC for Clytemnestra’s Bind for a long time and I’m behind on it. I tried reading it on vacation and promptly realized that it was too dense/heavy for my vacation brain so I returned it and borrowed it again. I also borrowed Kodi because I’m in a middle-grade graphic novel mood.
Music Monday
The first song I want to share is where I got the name for my blog. Dark Chest of Wonders by Nightwish. I discovered this band when I was in high school; a friend burned me 2 CDs of their music and I fell in love. To this day if someone asks me what my favourite band is, this is the name that will pop up in my head first. So when I was trying to decide the name of my bookstagram, I chose this bookish spin on the song name and haven’t looked back!
Album: Once â Year Published: 2004 â Genre: Symphonic Metal
Lyrics
Once I had a dream
And this is it
Once there was a childâs dream
One night the clock struck twelve
The window open wide
Once there was a childâs heart
The age I learned to fly
And took a step outside
Once I knew all the tales
Itâs time to turn back time
Follow the pale moonlight
Once I wished for this night
Faith brought me here
Itâs time to cut the rope and fly
Fly to a dream
Far across the sea
All the burdens gone
Open the chest once more
Dark chest of wonders
Seen through the eyes
Of the one with pure heart
Once so long ago
The one in the Big Blue is what the world stole from me
This night will bring him back to me
Fly to a dreamâŚ
Let’s chat in the comments!
Have you read any of these? Or, what did you think of the song?
I haven’t read the Deanna Rayborn series but I know it has a lot of fans. Yes holiday reading is for something that doesn’t tax us too much. Hope Clytemnestraâs Bind will work out for you now.
Oh yes, I’m only of the third book of the Veronica Speedwell series but I feel like I can count myself among its fans for now đ & Yes I think now that I’m back to everyday schedule, I’ll love diving into it, thanks!!
Wow, I didn’t even know that “symphonic metal” was a thing! Looks like an interesting reading week for you. I love reading middle-grade and YA graphic novels đ

Ahaha yes for sure, a fun new discovery to make :)! & Thank you I certainly hope so! Me too, I love both and I haven’t read enough of either yet this year, lol.
I hope you enjoy the next book in the Deanna Raybourn series. And I also hope that you get along better with Clytemnestras Bind when you try again đ¤ the cover for Kodi looks cute although having never read a graphic novel I still think I’ll start with something related to a series I’ve already read. I’ve also never heard of that band before but it’s interesting to learn how you came up with your blog name and its a lovely connection to have.
Thanks, so far I’m enjoying the 3rd book from the Deanna Raybourn series but I’m only about 2 hours in. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it now that my mind is in the mood for it. & Yeah I agree that’s the right move for you đ
Thanks, haha yeah I don’t know if you like metal music but they are great because they have operatic style vocals as well as orchestral elements mixed in with the more traditionally metal elements. When I discovered them I had never heard anything like that before!
I hope you continue to do so then. And mood can affect a read so much so waiting for the right one makes sense.
It’s not really my style, although if I’d found it when I was younger it may have been as I liked a few metal songs then. But the singer has a wonderful voice and the way that the powerful music blends with a voice like that does remind me of a couple of groups i like.
Yeah it really makes a big difference, I agree!
That’s fair enough đ Oh my gosh which groups? I’d certainly like to listen to them!
I haven’t listened to them in a while but the closest is probably Within Temptation. Evanescence too. And Halestorm. They’re not heavy metal but the power of the music and voice give me kind of similar vibes.
OH, I love them all too. Within Temptation is quintessential Symphonic Metal too! & I was obsessed with Evanescence growing up 𼰠Totally similar vibes, I agree!!
I’ll have to try listening to a few of Within Temptations songs again soon as it’s been so long but I used to love them. It’ll be interesting to see if I still do.
I feel like their style has evolved a bit through the years but I still like them and Sharon’s voice is so good that I like pretty much almost everything that she does! haha
Dark and Secret Magic has such a stunning cover! I hope you enjoyed the book as much as I love the cover. (And I hope I remember to pick up the book this autumn!)
Yes I love the cover for it so much too đ¤ I just posted a review for it if you want to know more đ Hopefully, indeed. I am hoping to make a Halloween books list but I am not the most seasonal reader so we’ll see if I can come up with enough titles to warrant making a list lol. đ
I love the covers of Raybourn’s series but I haven’t read any of them yet. I need to check that series out. I hope you enjoy all of your books on your list this week. Happy reading!
Yes, I love the covers too, I like the silhouette style of covers in general but I think these represent the story quite well! Thanks I hope you enjoy your reading this week too!
