May Flowers and Movies│Monthly Reset #10

May Flowers and Movies│Monthly Reset #10

Hey Bookworm friends! May was another incredibly busy month, with mother’s day and a bunch of family birthdays all lined up like little festive Dominoes! I also got the unwelcome news that my wisdom teeth need to be pulled out which I’ve been avoiding for a while. It’s mainly preventative but the dentist sent me to multiple x-rays to see what needs to be done. I was supposed to hear back from them over a week ago and I still haven’t. The waiting is stressing me out and if I have to remove them I just want to get it over with asap! Anyway, here’s what I got up to in May.

May Highlights

  • May’s flowers in the neighbourhood were gorgeous and I enjoyed finally being able to go on long walks outside with the pup. And Cheeto enjoyed his many bribes to take pictures next to every single flower😛!
  • Everyone in my household took turns being sick, even Cheeto (Poor baby had a stomach upset and a dental surgery in the same month). We were sick for my husband’s birthday which is a bummer because I had to cancel the party I had planned so it was more like a low-light 🤣. The only good thing that came from all that was that we replaced our old carpet for a more dog-friendly one which cheered me up a lot (machine washable is a definite upgrade)!

What I Watched

I’ve been saying I want to watch more movies this year so I’m really happy that I did watch a good amount in May. They don’t necessarily have to be new ones but since I’ve been watching a lot of long TV shows lately, I miss ‘one-and-done’ stories. I recently read The Enchanted April so I also wanted to watch the movie; it was enjoyable but I still preferred the book. I watched The Sunlit Night and The Bookshop on Hoopla and they were both slow, hopeful character-focused stories with non-Hollywood endings, which I liked. We went to the movies to watch Sinners and I am so glad we did because I loved everything about it, it’s easily going to be one of my fav movies of the year! And of course we’re still on our Babylon 5 journey and we watched 2 of the movies.

Finished Watching

  • Enchanted April
  • The Sunlit Night
  • The Bookshop
  • Sinners
  • Babylon 5: In The Beginning
  • Babylon 5: Thirdspace

Currently Watching

  • Babylon 5 (S 5)

Games I Played

There is one game that consumed my entire being last month: Slay The Spire. I didn’t really play anything else because I tried this and got immediately hooked. It’s a single-player roguelike game where you build a deck of cards to fight enemies. Now, I LOVE deckbuilder board games but I always struggle with them because by the time I figure out what kind of deck I want to build, the game is over and I’ve lost 😅. So Slay The Spire appealed to me because I can take my time to build my deck and if I fail, try again. I found it so addictive and got invested in looking up strategies online. The other fun thing is that there are 4 characters you can play as and each one has different abilities and sets of cards to learn.

So far I’ve beat the game with 3 characters:
– The Ironclad (which is the starter character and took me forever to win with).
– The Silent (poisons enemies, and I got lucky and won on my first try).
– The Defect (maybe my favourite character because I love his various orb-powers, won pretty quickly).
But now, I am attempting to win with the last character, The Watcher, who shifts between ‘Calm’ and ‘Wrath’ stances. And now the game is back to being difficult because this character is less forgiving, every small decision matters and I’m not good at making the most optimal move at every step. But the good thing about this game is that it’s super re-playable and I’m not done yet! 🖤

Has anyone else played Slay The Spire?

Links I Enjoyed

I decided that I would try to share more kinds of links that I enjoy throughout the month, not just from other book blogs. Like for example if I watch any Youtube videos or come across articles that I think are worth checking out. This month, I only have one ‘Other’ but I’m hoping to expand this section in the future.

I encourage you to visit these lovely bloggers 😊!

Other Links Worth Checking Out

As previously mentioned, I only have one to share in this section today but I think it’s absolutely worth sharing, especially for bloggers and people who are active in online spaces. It’s a video that dissect the term ‘content creator’ and it’s not pretty. I found the critique to be extremely thoughtful and valid.

  1. I already knew about your wisdom teeth but I’m sorry to hear that they left you hanging like that. I hope you know what’s happening now. Birthday wise your May sounds like my June. I hope everyone had wonderful birthdays and that you manage to get your celebrations for your husbands one rescheduled. I love the flower and Cheeto pictures too 😍 good to know he understands how to get given bribery treats 😂

I’m glad you got to see some movies and that you loved Sinners so much. I keep seeing people praising it but I don’t actually know what it’s about somehow 🙈 I guess that’s what happens when your go to cinema closes, you’re suddenly completely out of the movie loop 🙈

I’m glad you’re still enjoying your game. Good luck winning with the final character 🥰

I’ll have to check out some of the posts you’ve linked to sometime, they sound interesting. I really need to start fitting more blog hopping in again. And I like the idea of sharing other things that interest you 😊

I hope you have a fantastic June ❤️

Thanks so much and I still don’t know but I’ve been too distracted/busy to follow after them though the ball is in their court I did my part and paid for another expensive xray🙄 I’ll follow-up soon if I still hear nothing by the end of this week.
Ahaha quite a pair of busy months for us indeed! Thanks so much 🥰!! haha he’ll do almost anything for treats which is nice 😂
I didn’t really know what it was about either except that it’s about vampires. It turns out it was good I didn’t know anything about it coz it was such a fun experience. Yeahh that’s annoying, hard to keep up that way!
Aww thanks, it’s SO hard!! lol.
I really need to fit in more blog hopping too, I feel you! Thank you I’m so glad you like that idea since often I’m not sure if people would like something on here or not lol.
I hope you have an equally fantastic June! 🖤

      • That’s so frustrating. Why did you need another one? It’s so annoying when you have to chase things like that up. Especially as it’s something you’re nervous about anyway. I really hope it gets sorted.

It certainly is. And yes that’s good, definitely helpful at times 🥰

If it vampires I truly don’t know how I missed it 🙈 although I guess it depends on how they’re portrayed and the tone of the film. But still I feel like I’m slipping 😂 I’m glad you enjoyed it so much.

I have loads to catch up on but when I try to do it more I stop reading and I’ve only read one book so far this month 😭 I don’t know why I’m finding it so hard to keep up this year.

I get that as I was nervous sharing a cross stitch on my Instagram. But it’s your page even if it does have a bookish focus and you can share whatever you like 🥰

Thank you, can’t believe we’re already nearing the end of it.

  2. Thank you for linking up my post😁 And I hope everyone is feeling better, so sorry about the party that had to be canceled. Cheeto looks so cute next to the flowers!

  3. I enjoy seeing what others have found online 🙂
What a wild ride for May – the flowers were gorgeous though! Sorry to hear all, including pup, ended up sick – eesh! And waiting for medical/dental stuff is the worrrrrrst … hopefully you get answers soon <3

Thanks so much, Rebecca 🙂 I’m glad you enjoy that and good to know.
HAha right? It really was wild and thanks for the kind words 🥰

  4. Thanks so much for featuring my review, Vero! 💜 Sorry to hear that everyone took turns being sick but I hope you’re all doing better now! Also, I hope that you get news bout your wisdom teeth soon! Cheeto is so adorable in those photos and with the vibrant flowers in the background, they’re even more stunning snaps 😍 I haven’t heard of Slay the Spire but I’m pretty horrible at those types of games and always fail or find myself unsuccessful at every turn, haha. It’s such an awesome feeling when you discover a game you love that much though! I hope your June is treating you better so far and that you have a lovely rest of the month.

    • Veronica

My absolute pleasure, Dini and thank you so much 🙂 We are all better now thank goodness! 🙂 Aw thanks I’m glad you like Cheeto’s pics!🥰 Oh my gosh haha it’s not easy so I can’t blame you lol, I’m still playing it and it’s getting to the point where I’m super frustrated and yet don’t want to give up 😂. I do agree though!🖤 Thank you and I hope you’re having a lovely June too! 😀
