My First Magical Readathon: Spring Equinox (April) 2024 TBR

Magical Readathon TBR

Hey bookworms, this is my first year participating in the Magical Readathon and I am beyond excited! I’ve heard whispers of it in other years and was super curious but this is the first time I took the time to look into it and I’m glad I did; this is the most immersive and creative readathon I’ve ever seen! In this video, the wonderful G from Book Roast, the creator of this readathon, explains how it all works.

The Magical Readathon

Since it’s April, we scholars are called to attend Orilium Academy for our Spring Equinox semester to continue our studies! For her part, my character Ravynnia is ready to begin her studies in her calling of Necromancy. It’s quite a controversial field of study but Ravynnia is willful and sure of herself; nothing can turn her away from her chosen path! Even though necromancy makes some people uncomfortable, she knows it can do much good. After all, it’s how you use your skills that defines you, not the skills themselves.

According to the syllabus, for the Spring Equinox Ravynnia has to study 8 subjects and the prompts for each subject will guide my reading for this readathon.

Subject:

Animal Studies

Prompt:

Book With Yellow Title

Ava’s Demon Book Two: Aftermath by Michelle Fus

I recently read the first book of this series and I can find the second one on Webtoons.

Subject:

Conjuration

Prompt:

Spin A Colour Wheel. Mine landed on Orange.

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind

I’ve been planning on buddy reading this with a friend and my hold from the library finally arrived. Luckily the cover is pretty orangey!

Subject:

Demonology

Prompt:

Book You Did Not Pay For

Spindleheart: Trail of Shadow and Spool by T.I. Avens

I have the ARC for this middle grade and it looks adorable. It comes out on April 26, 2024, so I’ll be starting with this one to be sure I make the deadline.

Subject:

Spells and Incantations

Prompt:

Use A Number Generator to Find a Title With That # of Letters: 13

The Winter King by Bernard Cornwell

I’ve been wanting to read this book for a long time and it conveniently has 13 letters in its title—I hope I can get to it!

Subject:

Inscription

Prompt:

Write 3 Titles On Pieces of Paper and Choose at Random

A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers

I wrote my three options on paper and had my husband choose. The other 2 options were Reign of Emerald Fire by Matthew J. Turner and Mislaid in Parts Half-Known by Seanan McGuire. I’ll read the others later but I’m so excited this one won, this will be the year I try Becky Chambers!

Subject:

Restoration

Prompt:

Book That Could Cure a Slump

Even Though I Knew The End by C. L. Polk

This book was recommended to me by a friend whose taste in books I trust and I have heard nothing but great things about this book. Plus it’s a novella! It has all the makings of a potential slump cure.

Subject:

Shapeshifting

Prompt:

Book By An Author Who Blurbed Your Last 5⭐ read

Jhereg by Steven Brust

My last 5⭐ read was Assassin’s Apprentice and Steven Brust blurbed Robin Hobb. This one was tough because most of the blurbs on Hobb books are by George R. R. Martin and I didn’t want to read anything by him right now but luckily I found another option!

A Different Kind of Prompt: The Legend of Dia

Subject:

Lore

Prompt:

Read The Legend of Dia

Our Lore class is interrupted by the sudden disappearance of our professor! They leave behind a clue for us to read: “The Legend of Dia”. This will set off a side quest that does not necessarily need to be finished in April as we have until August to complete it. I am very curious about this but only one way to find out…

  1. I figured I’d check out your first TBR linked to this too but then I really am reading 😂 that final prompt looks different and sounds so intriguing. I hope it was fun. How did you get on with this TBR? I really want to read Winter King sometime given how major the author is and that it’s Arthur based. It sounds intriguing. A few of the others look familiar but there are others I’ve never heard of too. I hope you had fun.

    1. haha aww well thanks for checking out my first tbr. I can tell you I ended up reading 4 out of the 7 and I didn’t even have time for the final prompt which is a bummer because it sounded so cool. All in all not too bad though! Yeah same, Winter King is one I didn’t get to but it’s still on my list for the same reason, I love Arthurian retellings! Happy reading now, Charlotte 🙂

      1. Aww that’s a shame about the final prompt but it’s pretty good overall, especially as you said in a recent post that you aren’t great at sticking to TBRs. I’ve seen a few but I’m not sure if I’ve read any yet 🤔 there are some awesome sounding ones out there though. Thank you 🥰 I still haven’t done wonderfully but there’s always this evening.

        1. haha yes exactly, thank you 🖤 You get me! lol
There really are so many cool sounding ones that’s true 🙂 That’s ok I didn’t read at all today and I meant to all day lol.

    1. Thanks, I want to read but I also want to do other things so sometimes I gotta choose between cross stitching, reading, playing games, or blogging. It’s not a bad thing! 🙂

      1. I totally get that, fitting everything in can be so hard. It’s nice having lots of hobbies to occupy yourself though. I’m hopefully going to start another cross stitch soon.

        1. Yes it’s quite the juggling act haha but I’m never bored that’s for sure. lol OH nice do you know what project you wanna start next yet?

          1. Well that’s definitely good then 😅 I’ve got a Lucy Pittaway sheep design and I haven’t tried any of hers before so probably that one.

          2. Thank you. I love a few of her designs so if it goes well I’ll probably get another. And I have high hopes for it as it’s the same brand as the Wrendale ones that I do.
