Hey Bookworm friends, now that I’m back I feel freshly rested and inspired! I realized that I have a lot of time and energy to dedicate to my blog so I’ll be increasing my posting schedule to four times a week! My new schedule will be Mon, Tue, Fri & Sat. I feel my brain brewing with a lot of ideas; I want to participate in more of the blogosphere and I’d like to share more about my life and other interests, not just books. With that in mind, once a month I’ll post a Monthly Reset & Roundup where I hope to round up all my non-bookish updates.
The categories are what I’ve been watching, playing, listening to, craft projects I’m working on, and other bloggers’ posts I love. Basically, I just want to chat about a bunch of things in a slightly organized way so you can skip to any topics you care about; let’s see how it goes!
July Highlights
⟡ Our honeymoon was delightful! We saw a lot of beautiful sights and it was a good mix of busy touristy days, where we walked so much our legs hurt, and more relaxed times where we made time to read and took advantage of sleeping in. The Duomo (which took about 6 centuries to build 😲) and Castello Sforzesco were my two favourite sights in Milan; I am always deeply fascinated whenever I get the chance to visit a medieval building or site.
⟡ While visiting Finland, we crossed over to Tallinn in Estonia for a day and it was so worth it. The old town is gorgeous and we had lunch at a tiny Lord-of-the-Rings-themed pub where I had the best mead of my life 🤤. Overall the food was delicious and in almost three weeks, we were disappointed only once. I’d call that success😍.
⟡ We stayed in Helsinki and in Nuuksio National Park (we had planned to visit a few more cities but I got sick so we had to change our plans a bit). However, we made the best of it and I ended up loving Helsinki once I was feeling better and able to walk around again. I was also thankful to enjoy being out in nature in Finland; I left a piece of my heart with the trees in Nuuksio.
What I Watched
- Star Trek: Strange New Worlds; we’re on season 2 now and I’m enjoying it. I really love Number One and I’m just thankful Q isn’t around here. That alone is reason to rejoice, lol.
- Dropout; look I know it’s a channel and not a show but we watch almost everything they put out and we’ve been keeping on top of their newly released shows religiously so I think of it amorphously as ‘My Dropout’ like some sort of millennial grandma watching her stories.😂
What I Listened To
- This is History Podcast With Dan Jones; Season 5 is now here and I’ve been following along on Tuesdays. This season focuses on King Edward II of England, and as usual Dan’s storytelling abilities are keeping me hooked!
Games I Played
- Mushroom Cats; we brought this game on the trip and it kept us entertained during quiet moments. It’s a drafting card game, it’s tiny and has adorable art.
- Dofus Touch: A Wakfu Prequel; I found this mobile game and got really excited because I had no idea it existed! I used to play Wakfu back in the day and I had been wanting to replay it. This was a perfect discovery for me because I adore the tv show Wakfu as well as the Krosmaster board games set in the same world. I can’t wait to keep playing this!
Craft WIP
- I’m currently focusing all my crafty attention on a cross-stitch project I’m making as a gift for a friend. It’s a stylized half a face putting on makeup and the pattern is by LightUnicornDesigns on Etsy. I’m about a third of the way finished.

- Space Camp Readings by Smellincoffee @ Reading Freely. Literally the first person to ever leave a comment on my blog, a fact I shan’t soon forget! This post is a thorough list of all the human spaceflight books that he’s read. His enthusiasm for sci-fi and all things space is contagious!

Ooh yay I’m so glad that I got to learn more about your time away. I was curious about what sights you saw. I just had to Google Duomo to see it in full as 6 centuries is one major build time 😳 it looks so stunning though 😍 I’m so sorry to hear that you got sick whilst away though. Such awful timing. I’m glad you still managed to make the most of your trip. It looks incredible. Was the Mead rhubarb? I’m probably wrong, just wondered over the colour.
I’ve never seen any Star Trek. When it was younger it never appealed to me and now I’m just terrible at starting shows I guess 😂 one series within the world intrigued me when my dad had it on so maybe one day though.
I’ll have to look into the podcast you mentioned. I’ve never watched any but someone else gave me a couple of recommendations so I’m going to try them out sometime. And the cat game looks cute.
It looks like your cross stitch is going well too. Such a lovely gift. I’ve almost finished my current one.
Highlights of my month were visiting Kensington Palace after wanting to for years, and looking in two of the museums whilst nearby too. And seeing Pretty Woman the musical which was fantastic. It was so much fun.

I was blown away when I learnt about the building time, but it does make sense, it’s massive and so detailed, we took a tour in which we got a lot more details about the building process and I really enjoyed having more context. Haha yes, terrible timing but I must have caught something while in Italy I guess. But regardless it all worked out in the end! 🙂 No the mead was not Rhubarb but yeah it was quite dark, it was dark inside the pub too so it’s hard to see the colour but I just think it was plain mead, they didn’t mention if it had any additional flavours but omg it was so good.
That’s funny I never watched it when I was a kid either even though my dad did, I only started watching them in recent years and I’ve been enjoying most of them in varying degrees so I would recommend trying one if you like sci-fi. The Next Generation is my favourite. Do you know which one your dad had on that intrigued you?
Yes, you mentioned liking the Tudors if I’m not mistaken? This podcast follows the Plantagenets so you might like it as well!

Honestly I’m always stunned in those sort of buildings (although I’ve only visited ones in the UK) as to how they even made them tbh without machinery. Especially the roofs & ceilings. I’d probably have found the tour fascinating too. So frustrating but I’m glad you weren’t ill the whole time. Ah right. I know they do that flavour so I was curious. Although I did wonder if it was the lighting. I’m glad it was lovely though.
Maybe it’s a child thing, refusing to watch something if your dad does? 😂😂 Ooh that’s one of the ones that I’ve heard him refer to as a favourite. And I’m not sure but maybe Picard? I know he used to watch that. I didn’t spot the character so didn’t think it was but the actor that I recognised from something else is in that series so I think it must have been.

It was, I loved learning about Queen Victoria’s childhood there. And the state rooms were stunning. The musical was really well done. I’d definitely see it again.
I know right, it’s so interesting to think about the incredible skills people back then had to build such stunning buildings without modern technology! I am glad I wasn’t ill the whole time too haha 🙂 Thanks

Yeah same here. He watched a lot of car shows so I probably figured anything he watched would be dull to me 😂 I’ve only seen random scenes when I’ve been in the room

Yes that’s so true!! Also, I doubt anyone today would even think of starting a new building they knew would take 600 years to make, like we can barely wait for our computers to load stuff 😂

Oh dang, I suppose I’ll have to be patient but I’m not at Subspace Rhapsody yet, only watched 4 episodes thus far so I guess I’ll have to keep an eye out for that one, I didn’t look up what it’s about to avoid spoilers lol. But now I’m super curious, was that your favourite episode?
