Monthly Reset & Roundup

Non-Bookish Hobbies│Monthly Reset & Round-Up #2

Hey Bookworm friends, month-end is typically wrap-up time. I already posted my reading wrap-up but I wanted a separate post to talk about all my non-bookish hobbies. Not that I think this type of post needs much of an introduction but each month I’ll talk about different hobbies I may have spent time on that month. Feel free to see the categories in the table of contents and skip to the ones you are curious about, they might not all be the same month-to-month. For example this month, I didn’t spend as much time cross-stitching so I’ll skip the crafty section.

July Highlights

⟡ I got to celebrate my birthday several times with different groups of people.

⟡ I was able to see lots of friends for game days; some came to visit from out of town and we visited others in neighbouring cities. Seeing friends we don’t get to see very often is always a treat!

⟡ I went to brunch in Elora (Ontario) with my mom and family friends but we ended up spending the entire day in the village! It was a scorcher of a day but we walked so much; there’s a nice gorge in the area and so many quaint little shops to explore.

What I Watched

I fell in love with My Lady Jane, which promptly got cancelled 🙄It’s frustrating that good fantasy shows often don’t last long. Here’s a petition to try to save Lady Jane from the proverbial sword; It’s always fun when fans can do that! Then I needed to catch up on UA so I watched S3. That ending was bonkers and now I have far more questions!😂I also watched three movies this month. My husband and I decided to watch all the Star Trek TNG movies in order and so far we’ve watched two. I preferred First Contact even though I thought the start was a bit rough. We also went to the theatre for the first time in a long while to watch Inside Out 2 and it was worth it. As usual, Pixar does an impeccable job of getting me in the feels.

non-bookish interests
  • My Lady Jane, S1
  • Umbrella Academy, S3
  • Stark Trek: Generations
  • Star Trek: First Contact
  • Inside Out 2

What I Listened To

  • This is History Podcast With Dan Jones; still on S5. I’ve been enjoying it slowly.
  • Jeris Johnson’s Album: Dragonborn; was released on August 23rd. Here’s the first song I ever heard from him and it’s a popular one from the album. I love his voice and find his musical abilities to be versatile!

Games I Played

  • Burger Up: a fun little tile placing game where we race to make better burgers than our opponents. It kind of feels like a simplified Overcooked but in card form lol.
  • Wavelength: when my friends came over for my birthday we spent hours playing this party game! It’s great for sparking conversations and debates and you can play for as little or as long as you want. This one is a crowd-favourite amongst us.🖤
non-bookish hobbies

My friends and I have also been playing a lot of MTG, especially since the recent Bloomburrow set, with the cute animals, inspired a lot of them to join in for the first time! This means we have more friends to play with now! I made a commander deck with Helga, Skittish Seer as my commander and the first time I played this deck our game lasted for 3 hours. Too long for my tastes but at least it didn’t turn off our friends from learning! Every time I get a new deck, it takes a while for me to fully understand the strategy and possible combinations of my cards. But I look forward to improving with this deck and I also have a lot of Bloomburrow cards so I’ll likely make another deck at some point too!

  1. Once again Happy Belated Birthday. I’m glad that you got to have lots of different celebrations. Your trip to Elora sounds wonderful too.

I haven’t seen any of the shows or movies that you’ve mentioned but I’ve been curious about UA when I’ve seen clips. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that My Lady Jane gets saved for you and other fans.

I love games but don’t do them over much as I don’t really have anyone to play them with. It’s a shame as they can be such fun. Although I do have a few PS ones to check out/continue sometime. That animal card is a wonderful design though and given what you’ve said about frogs before I’m not surprised you like it.

It’s lovely that you take the time to share older posts as well as new. And thank you so much for linking to mine 🥰

I saw It Ends With Us and thought it was good. Oh and I finally saw Gladiator as well and thought that was fantastic. I really have no clue why I didn’t check that out years ago 😂 Sixth Sense may also have been this month but possibly July 🤔 but either way it was nice to check out a couple of older movies. Although there are many still on my list.

I hope you have a fantastic September 💗

    1. Thanks so much ♥ Yes It’s such a fun and beautiful little town to visit.

Yes, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that My Lady Jane gets saved too haha & Umbrella Academy is a fun watch too, I think that I only have 1 season left to catch up on!

Oh yeah that’s tough when you need to find people that also like to play games! I hope you get to play your PS ones soon since at least hopefully you don’t need anyone else for those. & yes the art on the frog card is by the same person that made the Mouse Guard books so how could I not fall in love with the art? haha Lol true, I do love frogs you’re not wrong 😂

      My absolute pleasure 🥰

Oh I have never seen Gladiator but I’m glad you liked it, I’d like to see it eventually. There’s a song from that movie I really like ahaha. I’m glad you got to watch some nice older movies! haha yes the movie list never ends eitherlol.
Aw, thank you. I hope you have a just as fabulous September, too 🖤

      1. It sounds lovely.

I’ll let you know if I ever get around to watching it but good luck catching up.

Thank you. It’s another thing I’m hoping to do once I’ve read a few more of these books 😂 I’ll have to look those up as I don’t think I’ve heard of them. Its lovely that one was included in the set really.

I hope you get to watch it sometime. I was really surprised by how much I loved it. Oh what song? Thank you I have a fair few other older ones to watch but some are tricky to find.

        Thank you 💗💗

        1. hah okay sounds good and we took a small break watching some other stuff before we go back to the final season of UA 🙂

Oh, more graphic novels, sorry I know you don’t read those and that’s ok. But these ones are about cute mice guards kind of like Redwall lol.

I hope so too thanks, wow okay your reaction is really making me think I need to watch it! haha the song is called Now We Are Free and the only reason I know it is because the band Celtic Thunder made a cover of it and I later realized it was from this movie. haha
& I can imagine them being hard to find, good luck ♥!

          1. Well whatever you watch I hope you enjoy it.

Yeah I looked it up and the pictures were kind of giving me three musketeers but as mice impressions 😂 sweet though.

Well there is a second one due soon so it’s a good time 😂 I’ll have to look it up as I don’t know it 😅 and thanks.

          2. Thanks 🙂
And yes that’s a great description of Mouse Guard, love it! Mouseketeers, if you will 😂

Ahh, exciting okay I see 🙂

  2. I think I said it earlier, but belated happy bday! Cool that you’re rewatching ST movies. I’m close to the end of my TOS rewatch’s season one. 🙂 Thanks for the linkage! Envious that you have local friend s to play with — I used to be part of a game night crew, but since the tornado so many people have moved away. 🙁

    1. Thank you, Stephen 😄! Haha yes, I had never seen them before so it’s been fun! Oh wow nice sounds like you’re making good progress. My pleasure 🙂
Yes I am incredibly lucky that most of my friends are all into games one way or another, which I guess is part of what why we bonded l🖤 Oh gosh I’m sorry to hear that, I mean it makes sense that they had to move elsewhere but what a loss that must have been, since it looks like you really love your community! It’s nice that you were able to stay, I hope it didn’t hit you too hard.

    1. Thanks 🥰!

Awesome, I love that your library does that 🙂 I hope you’re able to find someone to play with you but if you want to try by yourself there is the option to try the app MTG Arena, it’s good at teaching the game.

Have a great September right back! I’ll go check out your wrap-up!

  3. Thanks for the shout out. I’m glad you enjoyed the review. I’m enjoying My Lady Jane too and it is a shame that it has been cancelled. A lot of series pick up viewers over time but they don’t seem to be allowed to do that nowadays.
I’m now off to check out your other blog links.

    1. My pleasure, that review called my attention to the book and it sounds great! Glad you’re enjoying My Lady Jane too, & yes it’s so frustrating that they need to be a huge success right away or Nothing! That’s such an unreasonable expectation.
      Thank you ♥!

    1. Thank you 😁! & My pleasure, those posts you do introduce me to so many books I’ve never heard of before! haha Yes TNG is so good, if you’re in the mood I think you should indulge heheheh

  4. Belated happy birthday. Those games look interesting. It’s been so long since I last had, or went to, a games night – I should really remedy that.
Glad you like The Dawnhounds review. Thanks for the link. Here’s hoping we get more people to read it 🙂

    1. Thanks, Nic 🙂 Yes, I especially love Wavelength. I hope you get to have a game night soon then :)! Yes hopefully more people will check it out and I should be one of those people hahah

  5. I hope you had a lovely birthday. I’m glad you got to celebrate with lots of people 🥰 I’ve heard of the game wavelength and it is a bit different to play but I love how it gets you thinking!
I can’t believe My Lady Jane got cancelled either, especially as it has been popular and well-received?! Why? I actually liked the side characters in the end so it had so much potential!
I hope you have a wonderful September! 💜

    1. Thank you so much, Sophie 🥰 Yes Wavelength is such a fun party game and we’ve played the phone version for a long time but only recently got the board game version and I think it’s more fun because we don’t need screens.

Ugh I know, everyone that I know watched it loved it! And I was so invested in so many of the characters’ storylines too…😑
Thanks and I hope you have a fantastic September too! 🖤

    1. Right?!! Me too, it figures as soon as I find something cool it gets cancelled 😂😤 My pleasure, hopefully that does something, you never know I guess!
