Spotify Wrapped 2024 │Book Tag

Spotify Wrapped 2024 │Book Tag

Hey bookworm friends! I saw the Spotify Wrapped Book Tag tag on both The Corner of Laura‘s blog and Kappa Reads‘ blog and like with any meme that combines music and books, I can’t resist giving it a try 🖤.

This tag was created by Rosina at Lace And Dagger Books.

The idea of this challenge is to put your 2024 playlist on shuffle, and for the first three to five songs, you need to pick a book you read in 2024 that fits that song. It doesn’t have to be a perfect fit. You just have to explain why you chose that book for that song. Obviously, you won’t have a book match for every song, so you can skip some if necessary. But the idea is that you at least need to try, even if it is embarrassing.

The thing about my top 100 songs from 2024 is that they mostly consist of the same 3 artists, I really went hard on some favourites 😂. So to keep things interesting, I made an extra rule for myself to not include more than one song per artist.

Luring by Patty Gurdy Feat. Faun

“I’m the cold, cold water in the long, deep river
What is luring you is what will cause the deadly shiver
And all that’s sacred is all that withers”

Sixpence And Selkies by Tilly Wallace

In the 6th Manners and Monsters book, newly married Hannah and Wycliff arrive at his ancestral home in Dorset to find that a woman has lost her life in the ocean. Wycliff is certain it’s nothing but a tragic accident but Hannah starts to wonder if maybe she was lured into the water by a Selkie.

Black Magick by Twin Temple

“You’ll know my house when you walk down the block
And you get a funny feeling that the place might be haunted”

“You’ll know it’s me when I bust in the church
I’m making ’em turn their heads and they’ll clutch their pearls”

We Shall Be Monsters by Tara Sim

We Shall Me Monsters stars Kajal, a necromancer who is trying to bring her sister back from the dead. She embraces some really dark magic and the townspeople both hate her and fear her so this song’s overall tone is a good match.

My Review

Leaders of the Blind by Green Lung

“Dominated
Calling you to heel
Subjugated
In reverence you kneel
You can try to run away now
But you won’t get very far
You might think you’ve escaped but
They’ll know just where you are”

I Who Have Never Known Men by Jaqueline Hapman

The song is about conformity and a nebulous ‘They’ who controls the people. It can be interpreted in many ways but I had to pick this book because in it we never know who put the women in a cage or why. And they’re conditioned by fear to conform to the captors’ demands. And even when they manage to escape are they truly free?

My Review

Judas by Lord of the Lost
(Lady Gaga Cover)

“I’m just a Holy Fool, oh, baby, it’s so cruel
But I’m still in love with Judas, baby”

Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

This pick is a bit of a cheat because I started in 2024 but my re-read is still going. However, this is a perfect fit because there’s a character who is in love with a traitor. The traitor is revealed in book 1, which I did read last year. Plus, both Lady Gaga’s Judas and this book were released in 2011!

Cold Blood by Apocalyptica

“We killed it in cold blood
Did it for so long
God rest her soul
Until there was no love
Until it was all gone
Nothing could grow
We killed it in cold blood”

Kavithri by Aman J. Bedi

Kavithri is a Taemu, a once feared berserker but now is the dregs of society. The ruling class has done everything in its power to crush the Taemu’s spirits, livelihoods, and even families. Kavi completely cuts herself off from her berserker side that she keeps suppressed in fear that she’ll be violently punished. So the lyrics can be interpreted figuratively and literally.

My Review

That’s it for my Spotify Wrapped Book Tag! I hope you enjoyed it and maybe found some new books and songs to enjoy 📚🎵.

  1. Ooh this looks fun. Although I’m terrible at remembering to put music on 🙈 I really should make it a goal for this year to try and do it more. So it’ll probably come as no surprise that I don’t know any of the artists from this list. Although I do remember Lady Gaga’s version of Judas and enjoying it. And from the Spotify sample the last song sounds similiar to some of the music I’ve listened to before.

I also find the whole three artist thing relatable as I seem to have a tendency, when I do think to put music on, to listen to the same few artists too 😂

I think we’ve discussed most of these books before but I’m still eager to pick up We Shall Be Monsters and Kavithri. The reminder about I Who Have Never Known Men made me think of how much I was intrigued when you shared your review. I’m definitely going to have to read it sometime.

It’s so fun! & ever since I got into audiobooks I’ve listened to less music but this year I want to look up more new music if I can! I’d be curious to see if you find any new music you like this year too 😀 Ohh interesting, who knows maybe you have!

Most years my playlist is wayy more variied but in 2024 I tried to use Spotify less and use YouTube more so the results definitely got skewed because of that too.
Yeah we’ve definitely talked about all those books before but I’m glad they still sound good lol.

      • I guess that makes sense as they take the place of music at times. Hopefully you’ll discover more this year as you hope though. I’ll let you know if anything really strikes me. I need to catch up on a couple of artists I love first though. I know some have released albums that I’ve missed 🙈 last year I did hear Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo on the radio, check her out on YouTube and fall for her music but that’s the only new discovery of mine I think 😂

Ah right. That makes sense. I think I’d probably listen to music more if I had Spotify although I do sometimes use YouTube for music when straightening my hair 😂
        🥰🥰

  2. I love doing this post every year although I’m much the same as you with the same artists filling most of my top playlist! Our music taste is 1000% different but you’ve piqued my curiosity with some of these song+book combos because I have them on my TBR and can’t wait to read them. I’m most curious about the song for I Who Have Never Known Men! What you wrote about it makes me want to read it even more though. Great post and picks! 😃

How fun, I might have to do this every year too lol. Hehe sometimes the favourites just get more attention that’s so true but also this year was not typical for me. 😂 Ahah yeah based on some music i’ve been on your blog I think you’re right but different music taste is fun because sometimes you discover surprising new songs! 😀 I’m glad you’re curious about some of the books and I highly recommend I Who Have Never Known Men, i’d love to know what you think of it! & Thanks so much, Dini 😀

  3. I must admit, I’ve not heard of most of this music or those books but they all look intriguing!

I’m the same with music. I think about half my top playlist are Sabaton songs!

    • Veronica

Ahah that’s alright, I’m glad you think they are intriguing anyways 😀
& Yess Sabaton is great I can’t blame you lol. The other day when I read your Spotify Wrapup post, I went on a little Sabaton listening spree afterwards haha

  4. What a fun tag! And a great idea 🙂 I don’t have a 2024 playlist – I mostly listen to the radio and to my own songs on my Apple Music aka iTunes (i.e. the ones I own) – I;m pretty old school. I do have a Spotify account, so I should use it more often!

You came up with some great matches!

    • Veronica

Thank you, Sue 😀 Haha that’s okay, I suppose you could do this with any playlist that you listened to last year, it seems like a flexible tag 🙂 And oh wow I haven’t used in iTunes since I had an iPod back in my teen days, I used to like it a lot. Thanks for visiting my blog 🥰
