Hey bookworm friends! There’s about a month and a half left of 2025 and I already know I won’t have time for all the books I planned for the end of the year. I found the The End of the Year Book Tag on the blog Books are 42 and now’s the time to do it before 2026 sneaks up on me!
The End of the Year Book Tag was created by Ariel Bissett on Booktube.
Are there any books you started this year you need to finish?

I started Nordic Tales in Feb and it’s a super cute book but I’m really bad about short stories. It almost feels like a perfect read for the cold months so I’m hoping to come back to it this winter. I was listening to the audiobook for The Princess Knight and decided it’s a book I want to read with my eyes. So this is on hold until I can borrow a hard copy from my library.
Do you have an autumnal book to transition to the end of the year?

I didn’t really do a whole lot of autumnal or creepy season reading this year. My only true fall read was Cackle so that’s my answer. I did love it though so I can’t complain too much!
Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?
There isn’t anything specific I’m waiting for this year anymore. I’m sure there will be new releases that sound fun but I’ve got too many ARCs to read. And BBNYA finalists to read. So nothing that’s going to sneak onto my reading now pile.
What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

The first thing that comes to mind is Pride & Prejudice, If I don’t read it this year I’ll be upset with myself since I want to read it for her 250th anniversary. I’ve also got a buddy read of Silent in the Grave planned that I really hope to be able to get to before the end of the year but if not that’s okay. Lastly, I joined a book club for indie SFF and the first book that was selected was The Heart of Grim. It’s planned for December and sounds great so I have high hopes!
Is there a book that you think could still shock you and become your FAVORITE?
I mean, who doesn’t want to find at least one more new fav before the year is over? And I’m trying to pick up things that I think I’ll like so there’s always that chance! 🤞🏼
Have you already made reading plans for 2026?
So far the only reading plans I’ve made for 2026 is to join Leslie & Dini‘s group Dungeon Crawler Carl read-through! Message either of them if you’re interested in joining, they’re both so nice and I can’t wait!

I’m hoping to read Dungeon Crawler Carl next year too!
Ah, awesome! Well free free to join the group read if you want 😀 & I hope you enjoy it!
It ain’t over ’til it’s over. My main end of year goal is to make sure fiction does not finish ahead of nonfiction! Right now there’s a nine-book gap. May pick this meme up over the weekend…. 😀
Ahah you’re right we still got time for more reading! & good luck with catching up your nonfic then!! 9 books may sound like a lot to me but I have every confidence that you can do it :D!
Crossing my fingers for you on Pride & Prejudice!! 😉
I’m indulging in holiday reads and some fallish reads and finishing out some Austen-related reading challenges. But otherwise my reading is so heavily mood-based I can’t really “plan ahead” too much. I do need to catch up on some NetGalleys, oops …
Next year … keep reading all the lovely books, maybe more from my shelves than the library? Maybe? I feel like I say that every year though, lol
Thank you, I’m crossing my fingers too! 😛
Ah very nice, I hope you enjoy your holiday and fallish reads both. That’s fair it’s hard to plan too far in advance unless you can stick to lists. And I can relate to being behind on Netgalleys, good luck with that too 🙂 Ahaha That’s something I’ve been trying to work on too but the library is so tempting! I’ve had that as a goal for a few years and seem to keep failing at it.
I like this tag, might have to have a go. I havent made plans for 2026 but I do already have some books so I guess those are my plans for now.
Lynn 😀
Oh great, if you do I’d love to see your answers 🙂 And okay that’s nice at least you have some books ready to go and honestly that’s all you need sometimes 🙂 !
I didn’t realize it was Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary! I would have reread one of her books this year if I had, but I don’t think I can squeeze one in before the end of the year. Also, I’m pretty sure I gave Nordic Tales to my sister for Christmas a couple years ago! I have all my blog posts planned out through the end of the year or I would definitely do this tag 🙂
Well if it helps I’ve known about it for practically the whole year and have yet to actually pick up one of her books this year 🥴 And a 251st anniversary celebratory read also works 😉. Oh wow that’s so cool, it’s a very pretty book and the illustrations are gorgeous. I’m impressed that you have all of your blog posts for the year planned, that’s fair. 🙂
I can’t believe the end of the year is quickly coming to a close. I am so excited for our DCC read through!!! I’m glad you are joining us! <3 Pride and Prejudice is so good! It's one of my comfort reads. 🙂
I know I can’t either! It kind of feels like it flew by. I’m so excited too and thanks to you both for hosting the event! Aw yay that’s so nice, I’m hoping I love it as much too! 🙂

Aww, the reading group for Dungeon Crawler Carl!! *_* It sounds like a ton of fun! That series is fun and I think it is a great pick for a group read! I hope you’ll enjoy it!! 🙂
And love this tag! I may try my hand at it!
Yes, I’m super excited for the group read! That’s good to know, I’m sure the chats will be fun! Thank you so much and if you do this I’d love to see it!🥰
Pingback: THE END OF THE YEAR BOOK TAG – The Road To Hell Is Paved With Books
I love seeing so many bloggers do this post! I had fun reading your edition! Good luck with the books you still want to read (such pretty covers btw), and I should really get Cackle (this year I started with reading books by this author and I wasn’t sure what to read next Cackle, Sharp Teeth, or So Thirsty).
Thank you so much, Mehsi! Yes I love seeing other people’s answers to this tag too! I hope you get to read Cackle soon, I was definitely left wanting to check out Sharp Teeth and So Thirsty in particular too! 😀
I always love these kind of end of year tags 🥰 I’m glad I managed to check yours out before we hit 2026 😅 Nordic Tales sounds like an interesting collection. I recently got the Princess Knight as an ebook too. I hope you enjoy it whenever your library copy comes in.
Good luck getting to P&P. The anniversary was what pushed me to finally read it too. Although I didnt get to any of the other titles by her that I wanted to try.
I cant wait to see your thoughts on the first Julia Gray series. Given your love for Veronica Speedwell I’m intrigued (and I do still plan to read that one too).
Also I hope you have a great time with the DCC group read, it sounds like a lot of fun.
My only real end of year reading plan is to get back to it after the slump that ive fallen into and to actually pick up a few festive reads. If I dont get to my Nutcracker retelling again this year I’ll be fuming 😂
Hehe thanks so much and I love seeing these types of posts too! Nordic Tales is fun but I’ve had it on pause since last winter because I want to read it during wintery times!
Oh nice, did you read the Princess Knight yet? & I will come back to it next year I think.
The rate things are going I doubt I’ll be able to fit P&P in before the next year comes around, alas 🙁
Thanks so much, Leslie and I just started the first Julia Grey book and I’m so excited!
I’m sure the DCC group will be fun!
Yes that seems like a very good plan, getting back into the swing of things is already a goal 😀 Ahah good luck with the Nutcracker retelling! I know that feeling lol
They’re so much fun 🥰 I cant believe I missed my chance to join in 😔
Ah well at least it sounds like the kind of book that is easy to put in hold for a while and rejtnr to then.
Not yet. Is that the one you mean you’ll come back to this year?
Aww I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully you’ll at least find it to be worth the wait 🤞
Ooh thats awesome. I didnt know you were reading it together but it makes sense given how much you both love Veronica Speedwell.
Well I read one festive book and thats it. My nutcracker one is still on hold for next year. I’m doing a little more catch up over the next couple of days then eagerly anticipating my return to reading on Tuesday or Wednesday 😅
haha aww, there’s always this year!
Yeah it’s very easy because I own it, I just haven’t picked it up but this is a good reminder to do so! lol
And yeah I do mean to go back to Princess Knight at some point it’s just not high priority atm.
Hehe yes we decided why not turn it into yet another buddy read lol
Okay one festive book is better than nothing, in my opinion the window for festive reads is quite small coz I don’t like to too early so it’s hard!
Very true. I’m hoping to be more organised this year. And not disappear half way through October either.
Ah yeah, reminders can definitely be useful at times. I hope it works out for you whenever you return to it.
Oh lol well I’m glad it went so wonderfully for you both.
Yes that’s very true, I don’t like starting them too early either. And then this year I was stuck in a weird whirlwind of catch up for a chunk of that time too which didn’t exactly help. This year I intend to get to all of the ones I own at last lol.
