The Last 10 Books Tag

The Last 10 Books Tag

Hey bookworm friends! Since I’ve been ✨atrocious✨ at keeping up with reviews lately, I thought this tag might be a fun way to discuss different books I haven’t talked about yet. I saw The Last 10 Books Tag on Jak’s blog, Lost In The Narrative.

The Last 10 Books Tag was created by Marc Nash on Youtube

❗Please note that for some prompts I can’t discuss my thoughts without mentioning mild spoilers. So if you care about that sort of thing, you’ve been warned 😜.

I most recently DNF’d That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted A Love Potion At A Werewolf. I enjoyed the first book in this series but this second installment staring Brie and the werewolf Felix pissed me off right from the start. To be fair, the “fated mates” trope is one that I can’t stand at the best of times. But when the love-potion struck Felix takes it upon himself to marry Brie without her consent (I don’t know how that’s even valid 🤷🏼‍♀️), I was DONE!

I don’t have much to say here because I’ve already mentioned my Wicked Lovely reread with Charlotte from Bewitching Books, Ravenous Reads a lot on here. Fragile Eternity (book 3) was the one we most recently finished.

I’m going to interpret this question as the last physical book I bought because, while e-books certainly count, they don’t take up space in my home. The shiniest book on my shelves is To Be Taught, If Fortunate and I have yet to pick it up!

I’ve got nothing for this one. There are plenty books I say I want to read but haven’t yet; I think every bookish person can relate to that feeling. But I don’t see a need to lie about books I haven’t read, that’s just how having finite time and infinite books to read works…and now I’m sad.

I’m not a write-in-the-margins type of reader although sometimes I do find it tempting. The only book I’ve ever done it to is my copy of A Brief History of The Druids which I ended up DNF-ing anyway. The subject matter was interesting but I found the writing pretty dense and not very readable. I understand that we don’t know a lot about Druids since they didn’t believe in writing their teachings down, but I’d love to read another book (ideally, more accessible) on the subject.

Last summer, I went to a Ren Faire where the Canadian indie author Richard H. Stephens was selling his books. I’d never heard of him before but walked by his table several times and got intrigued by his books. Being a lover of dragons, I decided to give him a chance and I bought Reecah’s Flight which he kindly signed for me. I haven’t read it yet but I hope to eventually get to it 😄.

I guess it’s possible, but I can’t think of a single book that I’ve lost 🤔. Plenty of books I’ve gotten rid of willingly though 😂!

Well, I didn’t HAVE to replace it but I bought a really ugly used edition of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. I’m not even convinced it was a ‘real’ edition, the formatting was messy with a blurry cover, like someone printed it themselves or something. But then I read it, loved it, and wanted to upgrade it to a pretty one. So when I saw the Painted Edition of it at a used book shop, I pounced on it 😍!

It wasn’t a serious argument, but I buddy read Don’t Let The Forest In with two friends and we combed it with a fine toothed comb! The open ending really didn’t work for me in terms of enjoyment but I will say it’s a great book for a book club. It will certainly inspire discourse and competing theories. We practically dissected it and I’m still not sure what I believe really happened.

This morning I got a notification from Google Books letting me know that Penric & Desdemona #14 exists! I immediately started looking for The Adventure of the Demonic Ox in all the places I use: Libby, Hoopla & Cloud Library. Sadly, nothing yet! It seems it published on July 10th so maybe it’s too early for my libraries to have it. I don’t want to buy it on Google Books. So I will keep two eyes out for this one!

  1. You know what, I was shocked that there was a prompt about -a book you read but didn’t. Then I realized that people do this! Someone went viral a few weeks ago for lying on her Netgalley reviews to bump up her score (big influencer) and it shocked me. I don’t know why you would ever lie about that! Anyways, the Kimberly Lemming books are OUT there. haha. I do enjoy them when I need a quick audio and I’m in for an unserious story.

    • Not to be that lurker in the comments but I lowkey want the tea here about that big influencer 👀 Haha is this someone you’ve mentioned to me before?!

      • Veronica

Ahahah 😂!! I kind of want to look it up myself now too ngl 😜

      • Omg yes Dini I was scrolling past to leave my comment and thought the exact same thing. I may have to pester Leslie on Instagram for details 😂

        • Veronica

I love that everyone is curious for more info about this heheh 😂

    • Veronica

The way I gasped when I read your comment?! What the heck? I absolutely did not hear about that person, that’s wild to me! It is quite shocking because it really ruins her credibility.
They really are out there but I did have fun with most of the ones I’ve tried, I’m gonna try her dinosaurs one at some point too, have you read that one?

  2. This tag actually sounds hard, I’m not sure I could answer all the prompts! I read the first book in Kimberly Lemmings’ series and it was just OK for me, so I didn’t continue.

    • Veronica

Yeah it was kind of hard and I wasn’t able to get answers for all of them! Ah okay that’s fair, I can definitely see it not being for everyone for sure. I’ve had mixed results myself haha 😀

  3. I honestly can’t remember the last book I DNF but I can easily recall the last book I *should have* DNF but then I didn’t because I’m really bad at DNF-ing. 🤣I have To Be Taught If Fortunate on my TBR as well and I love that it’s a hardback novella. Something about that just makes me appreciate it more, haha. Although I don’t think Don’t Let the Forest In is really my type of read, you’ve piqued my curiosity with what you said about having completely dissected it and still not being convinced about what really happened. Sounds like a total mind twister! 😂

    • Veronica

Oh nooo haha, I can totally understand wanting to finish a book even if you’re hating it but I’ve gotten better at dnf-ing with time! And sometimes pushing yourself is also the right thing to do so 🤷🏼‍♀️! Oh wow that’s cool and if you ever want to buddy read it I’d be down for that :D. Aww, mine is a paperback but I am so glad your hardback makes you appreciate it more!
Honestly the fact that I read it with friends and we chatted a lot about it made the experience so much better than it would have been otherwise so if you’re wary I might recommend that hahah 😀 At least it twisted my mind and then looking up theories on the internet afterward was fun too heheh

    • Veronica

Ahah yes I love how much you love Chambers! & Ohh yay, okay I’m on my way to check out your answers thanks for letting me know 😀 !!

  4. I’m sorry that Kimberly Lemming’s book annoyed you so much, how frustrating. Its a series I may try further down the line but I’m not in a rush to do so, especially now. Although it’s her other series I’m least convinced by, that one just sounds weird to me 🙈 Ooh I hope you love the Becky Chambers book whenever you get to it.

I don’t think I have any books I’ve said I’ve read but haven’t either. Although like there are dozens that I’ve said I would and haven’t gotten to. They’re all still on my TBR, it’s just trying to fit everything in.

Wow that first version of Persuasion sounds rough, like a badly made fake brand knock off type thing. I’m thrilled you managed to find the painted edition secondhand though. That’s amazing 🥰🥰

I hope your library gets the latest Penric book in sometime 🤞 I get not wanting to buy it, I’m the same with novellas. Although I may have to cave with a few series eventually as my library never seems to buy them 😭

    • Veronica

That’s alright & thank you. Well I enjoyed the first one, dnfd the second, and also generally liked the third so results may vary 😂. That’s fair haha! Thank you 🖤
Yeah that second situation is true for all readers I’m sure! 😆
It was so weird I think I had looked it up at once point and it was like printed through Amazon but it looked atrocious! Thanks I’m so glad I found that version too!!
Last Penric book I didn’t have to wait too long before my library got it so I have hope and yeah I don’t love buying ebooks so I try to limit that even if it is one of my fav series.
Oh noo, that sucks but I understand you may not want to wait for your library forever! lol

      • Oh wow sounds like a mixed bag series then. I’m glad more were on the positive side of things for you though.

I didn’t even realise they printed books 🤔 definitely a frustrating purchase. At least you got a stunning one in the end though.

Yay I’m glad the wait wasn’t a long one 🥰 I don’t mind ebooks so much, it’s novellas 😂 I don’t like paying RRP for such a short book 🙈
I’m going to look into if there’s a request title option anywhere. I’ve seen it on titles they have but don’t know how to suggest others 🤔

        • Veronica

Yes, that’s a good description of the series I’d say. My husband read all of them too and he also said some are much better than others.
I didn’t know that either until that debacle basically lol. And yeah no complaints in the end.
Yeah, I totally understand not wanting to pay more for novellas as well. :S It’s hard to justify unless it’s like an omnibus edition, I like those.
Oh I see, okay good luck I hope you find a way to request them 🙂

          • Ah it must be a popular opinion then. It’s odd how some series can vary so much like that.

Not exactly a good advert for their printed books then

Yes true, those ones help. Although they don’t seem to do them for everything.

I feel like they’d make sense to stock too as I imagine a lot of other library users would appreciate them too. It’s not like some niche title I don’t think others will like, it’s a really popular series and fairly short too which entices some readers.

    • Veronica

      Here’s hoping!!! 🤞🏼
