Choose Your Own Adventure: A Year in Aeldia – 2024 Reading Challenge

Reading Challenge

Hey Bookworms, if you’re anything like me you can’t see a reading challenge without wanting to participate. In previous years I spread myself too thin by saying yes to all of them (and inevitably finishing none🙃). Well, you know what I say? Not in 2024! I have decided to participate in the Choose Your Own Adventure: A Year in Aeldia 2024 over on Book Roast‘s channel. Because this challenge is part of a bigger ongoing Magical Readathon and it’s so expansive and creative, I think I’ll be too immersed to divide my attention in too many other directions—at least that’s the hope.

Check out this video if you want to participate, there’s still plenty of time to join in on the fun!

So, I made my character and I’m ready to explore Aeldia! I’d introduce you but I have zero drawing skills so you’ll have to imagine a small vampire-looking woman called Ravynnia. She wears a delicate white lacy dress under her scholar’s robe and never leaves the house without her cross-shaped earrings. She is a proud member of the Archivists Guild; Her passions include demonology and necromancy, and she’s a particularly talented shapeshifter.

Initially, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to wing it or aim my path toward a specific reward. Looking at the path options now, I know Ravynnia would love to have a rescue cat so I’ll point my reading in that direction!

January – Listen To An Audiobook

I started the adventure by relying on my wits and listening to an audiobook. I listened to Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire (narrated by Cynthia Hopkins) in January, loved and have since continued the series. Now I’m stuck in a long line at the library waiting for the newest entry to the Wayward Children series.

February – Mystery/Thriller

I continued on the adventure by going towards the maze and selecting a mysterious read! I picked this prompt because I had to read the ARC for The Antique Hunter’s Guide to Murder by C.L. Miller. Disappointingly, I didn’t love it as much as I wanted but it was a fun cozy mystery.

March – A Series That Intimidates You

Next, I had to remove a complex lock enchantment cast on the exit door. This prompt aligned perfectly with the fact that I was about to dive into The Farseer Trilogy. I’ve been wanting to get into Robin Hobb for years but I was daunted; nothing like a challenge to push me to take chances. It’s now my favourite read of the year so far! Check out my review.

In April, we go back to Orilium Academy for the Magical Readathon! I’ll make separate posts for the Orilium months (there’s one in August too) and I’ll post updates for the continuation of the Choose Your Own Adventure Reading Challenge. Stay Tuned 😉! Tell me if you’re participating too in the comments or what you would have picked for either of these prompts.
