My 2024 Reading Goals

I love to challenge my reading with various goals each year so when Lianne from Literary Diversions over on Youtube created her Bingo Board from Hell 2024, I knew I had to jump in with my version of the board! The idea is to fulfill all the prompts, but as the name implies it won’t be easy — we’ll see how much I can get done! The goals I selected are ways I can be more mindful while reading this year; wish me luck, I’m always getting tempted in five thousand different directions! Also, I appreciate efficiency so one book can count for multiple prompts.

8 Series Books

The goal is to continue (and hopefully) finish any ongoing series I’ve started in previous years. I should not be counting any new series started in 2024 for this goal.

  • Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig
  • Witch Hat Atelier, Vol. 11
  • Lore Olympus, Vol. 4

5 Historical Fiction or Romance

I want to get into Historical Fiction more and I hardly ever read romance so I’m trying to push myself a bit with this one. Bonus points if it’s a Historical Romance!

  • Salt Houses by Hala Alyan
  • Manners and Monsters by Tilly Wallace

12 Own Shelf Books

I’m a huge advocate for the library and I use it a lot! This sometimes means I neglect my own shelves, which I NEED to stop doing.

  • Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

5 Books On My Kobo

This one is self-explanatory, except library borrows don’t count for this prompt either. They have to already be on my Kobo collecting virtual dust!

12 Rainy Day Books

I have a bad habit of saving books that I think I’ll love for a metaphorical ‘Rainy Day’…then I never pick them up! I really want to stop doing that too. These goals are basically airing out my bookish red flags 😆lol.

  • Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

5 Instagram & Youtube Published Books

Unsurprisingly, lots of people I follow on both platforms have written books and I want to support people in my community more.

12 Friend Recommendations

At the start of the year, I collected 12 recs from 12 friends on IG and this is what I got:

  • The Six Deaths of the Saint by Alix E. Harrow Review Here
  • A Man’s Skin by Hubert Review Here
  • Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson
  • The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams
  • Monstrous by Sarah Myer Review Here
  • Keturah and Lord Death by Martine Leavitt
  • The Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold
  • The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty
  • 28 Days Sassier by Damien Casey
  • A Dowry of Blood by S. T. Gibson
  • Witch King by Martha Wells
  • Even Though I Knew The End

5 Physical Library Borrows

This goal is where my library gets to shine! I want to recreate the feeling of being a little kid spending the day browsing in the library and coming home with books I’d never heard of before. This is hard to achieve in the days of Bookstagram, Booktube and GoodReads but I will give books a chance without looking them up.

  • If Wishes Were Horses by Anne McCaffrey
  • Ava’s Demon Book 1 by Michelle Fus

8 Discworld Books

Last year I joined a Discworld read-along, read The Colour of Magic, and then never continued. I’d love to catch up and read more in this world!
