Hey Bookworm friends! Now that Labour Day has come and gone (what? how?), we’re back to our normal schedule. Meaning that I’ll probably have more time to read and blog than I did over the summer. I’m also participating in The Magical Readathon in September so I need to really lock in! But for today I’m looking back at August. Historically, my favourite month of the year because of my birthday and now my wedding anniversary happens on the same month! It’s truly a time for celebration in this household 🥳💘! Here’s what I got up to in August.
August Highlights
- We spent the entire day of our anniversary walking around the zoo. Some silly moments: Tortoises getting a bath, a stubborn sloth that absolutely refused to eat apple slices, and an upset Cheetah who could not reach the meat the handler threw and wanted MORE (fair). I also learned Cheetahs are not considered ‘big cats’ because they do not roar; they purr.
- I got absolutely spoiled for my birthday, with family outings. A restaurant and a movie. 🥰
- It was generally a very social month because everyone wanted to hang out and enjoy the last bits of summer so I saw lots of friends!

What I Watched
The Odyssey (2026)
Knowing the tale of the Odyssey from Greek Mythology, I thought it was not a very good adaptation but a good movie. I enjoyed it while watching even though I had my qualms and reservations, it still managed to make me emotional in parts. I wish we got to spend more time with Circe and I was disappointed that the ‘Nobody’ moment with Polyphemus wasn’t included.
Art Detectives (Season 1)
Ever since I read ‘The Art Thief’ I had been wanting more stories about art crime and even though this TV show is fictional, I loved it. I ate up all the 6 episodes from season in a couple of days and I can’t wait for the second season. I liked the chemistry between the main characters and the mysteries were compelling.
Pantheon (Season 1)
I was in the mood for an animated sci-fi show and when I searched some up. Pantheon came up and I’m so glad we decided to start it because it’s incredible!! It’s about a young girl who’s father gets uploaded into the internet and everything breaks loose from there. The story is bonkers while still feeling grounded in a lot of relevant themes about technology, identity, and politics. I also love the animation style, what a great show!
Coyote Vs. ACME (2026)
This was a fun movie, I had not seen any Looney Toons stuff since I was a kid but I heard good things about this movie and I was pleasantly surprised. It may not be an absolute favourite but it certainly made me laugh and the story was unique and creative! It made for a really fun date night with popcorn and all.

My Top Video Game of the Month
Lots of Cats in Every Moment
I barely played any video games this month. I started and quit Terraria out of frustration in like a day and then I was just searching for a light game to play while watching TV. I found this cute little free hidden object game on steam and finished it in 3 hours. It’s a short story about a woman who adopts a cat and finds romance except that in every scene there are tons of hidden cats to find. It’s short and sweet and served its purpose but I didn’t like it enough to download the available DLC for it.
My Top Board Game of the Month
Massive Darkness
After spending years painting the miniatures from this game, we finally started actually playing it! It was worth the wait however since I’m loving it. In this game you play as a party of fantasy characters who delve into dungeons and fight monsters. Each character has different powers but they become more powerful when they are in darkness. So part of the fun of the game is strategizing you so you can be on dark tiles when you attack. It’s also a campaign so your character can unlock new skills and gain equipment as you move through the quests. So far, we’ve played 6 quests and there’s lots to go still!

Ahahah excellent, I love that (sounds like a cozy head rest)! I am 4′ 10″ and my husband is 6′ so it’s a pretty big difference but those top shelves won’t reach themselves 😂!
Oh, for cats in games….there’s a cozy game on Steam called Minami Lane. Basically you manage a Japanese street, putting down desired places (ramen shop, tea shop, onsen, etc) and tweaking their offerings. The more cats that show up in the neighborhood, the better you are doing.

Terraria is definitely a game that is easy to bounce off of. I’ve enjoyed it off & on, but in more of a Minecraft way where I 100% do my own thing and don’t try to advance the quests at all. It’s not an easy one to jump into, though. Takes some set-up to get game settings the way you want, too.

Yeah, I spent like 3 hours trying to figure out how to ‘make a house’ and in the end I had to look up how to do it… and then when the process of putting down walls was hell I just thought NOPE. I wanted to just dig and make my house underground but the game didn’t let me 🙁 lol. Ahah sounds like you play Minecraft in a very chill way.
