Top 10 Book Series I Want to Catch Up On

Top 10 Book Series I Want to Catch Up On

Hey bookworm friends. This week’s TTTopic was really difficult because I have way more than 10 series I’ve started and want to continue. I looked at my series tracker spreadsheet to narrow it down and picked amongst the oldest ones on there. I was hoping to pick 50/50 novels and graphic novels but I only had 4 graphic novel series so I just picked them all. Here are my top 10 book series I want to catch up on!

Oh, is it because you tend to read standalones or because when you want to read a series you catch up to it really well? And yes, I like that cover a lot too :)!

  1. Ooooh I was really wanting to get into both Hobb’s and Broadbent’s series! I LOVE their book covers.

    • Veronica

Ahh well I hope you love both of those series if you do try them :D!! I definitely need to get moving on them both lol.

  2. Ooh, Mouse Guard looks kinda like a series I read when I was a kid, the Redwall books by Brian Jacques! Such nostalgia there.

Looks like a good list! Hope you enjoy them once you get to them.

    • Veronica

Yess it is very similar to Redwall in some ways, I haven’t read those books yet but I did watch the tv show as a kid. The art in Mouse Guard is excellent and I’d say the tone of the story surprised me a bit in that it was quite heavier than I was expecting, in terms of the themes. Thanks, Nicky 🥰.

  3. Also read book 1 of Descender. I’m a bit on the fence about continuing, and will keep an eye out for your thoughts!

    • Veronica

Ahh cool! Okay, I will need to use that as some motivation to continue it. I always meant to but got distracted and I want to read it in its physical format not the one on Hoopla that I found 😬.

    • Veronica

Ohh Nice!! I hope you enjoy both of those authors as well, thank you :D!

  4. Nic

It’s times like these that you make lists of lists. Ten that you have only read one book on, ten that you are really curious about the next book for, etc.

Btw, for Dragon Jousters, there is a natural ending at the end of book 3. That’s where I stopped because I couldn’t get hold of book 4. I think I can now get it from Amazon if I want but I’ve already considered it completed for a few years now

    • Veronica

Ahha yes I should have stretched it out into subcategories but I guess I can always do that for future TTT if the topic doesn’t inspire me in the moment :D!!
Ah, good to know thanks for that! I found books 1 & 2 at a used book store and bought them both and I figured finding books 3 and 4 would be a problem for future me. It’s nice that there’s a natural stopping point, it gives more options. 🙂

  5. Ah this reminds me to hop back to Monstress soon. And I’d like to read Invisible Library.

    • Veronica

How far along Monstress have you gotten? I’m thinking I need to restart at the beginning because it’s been too long and I’ve forgotten too many things and there are so many factions and political machinations that I will just be lost if I don’t 😂. I really enjoy Invisible Library so I’d love to know your thoughts if you do try it, Zezee 🙂

      • I’m up to volume 5. I restarted it when I picked it back up earlier this year.

        • Veronica

Ohh nice! I think it’s a series that benefits from a restart for sure 🙂

  6. I don’t read a lot of fantasy, although I have enjoyed many that I’ve read. If you had to recommend one of these series, which one would it be?

  7. I am way behind on Lore Olympus myself. I really like the look of Descender. I haven’t heard of that one before. Hope you get an opportunity to get to these soon!

    • Veronica

Ohh boy yeah I just looked up how many volumes there are of Lore Olympus now and was suprised by how many I didn’t realize had come out! I gotta get moving on that lol. And I read the first volume of Descender and the art blew me away, the plot was intriguing, and the main character is so lovable. Another one I dropped the ball on. Thank you :)!

  8. Invisible Library is a series I keep meaning to start. It bodes well that you’ve read a bunch at this point.

    • Veronica

Yes, I read a whole bunch in a row years ago and loved it and I stopped for no good reason, I guess I just didn’t have the next available one so I kind of forgot about it but I’ve always been meaning to go back and finish it 🙂

  9. I would also love to keep reading The Crowns of Nyaxia. And also, didn’t a spin off series just kick off? Ugh, so hard to keep up!

    • Veronica

I think the thing about The Crowns of Nyaxia is that there are several ‘duologies’ within it, each centering around a different vampire house. And I do believe the newest one that came out this year is the first of the Bloodborn Duet, which follows the House of Blood. So far I’ve only read the first duology, and book 1.5 and that’s it. It IS hard to keep up, lmao!!

    • Veronica

The first one is incredible, I adored it and it’s the exact type of fantasy I love but I have this weird thing that when I adore a book, I sometimes have a really hard time continuing the series because “what if it’s not as good?” It’s a me problem and I’m working on it 😂.

    • Veronica

I agree, the covers for this series are as incredible as the art inside of them, seriously they’re works of art! 🙂 My pleasure, Astilbe!

    • Veronica

I do love the covers for that series, they really draw me in!

    • Veronica

Oh that’s cool 🙂 I bet your student would love it if you did check out her books haha! I’ve only read a couple but I think I need to read more because I may like her, she’s just SO prolific!!

  10. Lore Olympus is such a great series. I was reading it on Webtoon long before it was ever published into books! (I’m so proud of her!) I also need to start my Realm of the Elderling journey. I have the whole series because it honestly sounds like a world I will love, so I hope that you enjoy it as well as you continue reading it, too! I also have The Foxglove King and The Serpent and the Wings of Night on my TBR as well lol One day I’ll read them!

    • Veronica

That’s so awesome, I only more recently discovered Webtoons so I never read it back then but I have to agree it’s a great series and happy for her that it’s been so popular! I hope you enjoy the Realm of the Elderlings when you get to it as well as all the other ones on your tbr :D!!

    • Veronica

Hi, Jessie and thank you for visiting my list this week 🥰! Here’s hoping for some progress and I’m on my way to check out your post! 🙂

  11. Becky's Book Blog

I’m hoping to start the Farseer trilogy this year at some point… I say as the year is swiftly disappearing lol. I felt like the first book in Whitten’s trilogy was by far the best, I felt like each book let the story and characters down a little bit.

    • Veronica

I’ve been saying that I’m gonna continue Farseer Trilogy for a few years already and I know right? It’s absolutely flying past. Good luck to us 😛 lol Oh that’s a bummer but I do appreciate the heads up so when I try it if I don’t love the second one I’ll just dnf the series.

  12. Ohoo, I totally forgot about A Deal With A Demon books and Monstress! I think I might’ve stopped Monstress at Vol 5 as well. At least once I start reading it again there’ll be tons to binge! And I think Roberts is done with the demon books, right? I need to continue with the Farseer Trilogy as well, but I’ll be starting the third book and I can’t wait 😍 I hope you love all of these books/series whenever you get to them again, Vero!

    • Veronica

Ahaha that’s so funny we stopped Monstress at around the same spot! Yes, I’m going to have to read it all back to back so the same thing doesn’t happen again lol! Yes, I think as far as I’m aware a deal with a demon series is finished. Ah, amazing you’re almost done that Trilogy!! Thanks, Dini I hope you love any that you might continue as well 🥰!!

  13. Ooh nice picks! Some new to me ones here! I actually just finished The Nightshade God last week so I got one series off my plate! Lol. But definitely need to get back to Broadbent’s! Hope you’re able to get caught up on these soon!

    Thanks for visiting my TTT!

    • Veronica

Ohh wow okay and how did you like The Nightshade God? I hope you enjoy Broadbent’s series when you return to it as well and thank you :D!!

    • Veronica

      I agree, what a fun series I can’t believe I haven’t continued it! Thank you :D!!

    • Veronica

It is intimidating, I think that’s certainly part of why I haven’t continued even though I already know I love her writing and world. I NEED to kick myself out of that lol

  14. I started Monstress when it first came out and I think I read 3 volumes. I should get back to my graphic novels, but I barely remember a thing but I do know I needed to pay attention to the story, and the art was beautiful! I was also very far into Lore Olympus and I had so much fun reading that series, the coloring in that is stunning.
Hope you can catch up soon with all of these and that you have a great time!

    • Veronica

Oh fun, yeah I started Monstress when it first came out years ago too and fully agree, the art is stunning!! 🙂 I’m glad you’ve enjoyed Lore Olympus as well and yeah I love the colour scheme on that one, another where the art is incredible. Thanks, Anna 🥰 I hope you’re able to go back to your graphic novels as well.

    • Veronica

Yes, me too, the cover is quite eye-catching! 😀

  15. We have The Farseer Trilogy and The Nightshade Crown in common, although I’m one ahead of you with both of those. I really don’t know how I didn’t finish the latter last year as I adored books one and two 🤔 I also majorly need to start Nyaxia but I’m hoping that when I do I’ll become so hooked that I catch up fairly swiftly 🤞

I didn’t realise you’d read anything by Mercedes Lackey besides that Elemental Masters one. And I have a Genevieve Cogman series to finish too but its her vampires/French Revolution one.

Good luck catching up on all of these. I didn’t realise Lore Olympus has so many installments to it.

    • Veronica

Yess you are ahead of me on both of those, I seem to remember! I gotta catch up, lol! Probably the same reason I haven’t continued, just coz life is busy and there too many distractions🙈! I’m thinking that if you like Nyaxia it’ll be easy to catch up for sure, they’re fun!
Yeah I actually read the Dragon Jouster one first and liked it more than I did the Elemental Masters one! Ohhhh I have not started Cogman’s French Revolution series yet but you can bet its on my list. only I want to try to finish the invisible library first lol. Thank you and honestly until I looked it up for this post, I wasn’t aware of just how many volumes Lore Olympus had now either!!

      • Good luck catching up. I’ve had a few series I’ve been meaning to get up to date with all year but somehow still haven’t gotten around to 🙈 I’m very intrigued by the new one in that series too. I’ve seen some very interesting elements highlighted in reviews so I’m pretty impatient to catch up too 😂

I remember that one wasn’t exactly a hit for you. I’m hoping it was just a weak installment in the series though 🤞 and I totally understand not wanting to start a new series by them until you’ve finished the one you have in progress. Ive seen a cosy fantasy title by them thats either newly out or out soon too. Whether its a standalone or new series I don’t know though. I’m sure you’ll manage to catch up on them though. And hopefully have a wonderful time whilst doing so 😊

        • Veronica

Thank you and ahaha yeah that’s just the way of things, I guess 😂. Ohh Intriguing, what’s the element that’s stuck out to you from the reviews of the new Nyaxia book? I’m so curious!
Yeah that’s right, I didn’t love it although there WAS a lot to like and since the series is so long I’m prepared to give it another chance at some point although when that will be who knows! Yeah if I start too many series by the same author then I’ll never get any of them done lmao! Whaatttt?? I just looked it up omg that’s exciting, yet another reason to hurry up! A Scholar’s Guide to Demonology & Other Dark Arts….I don’t need to know anything else! Thanks for letting me know!:D

    • Veronica

Ah, awesome!! I hope you get to start Robin Hobb as well I definitely loved the only one I read haha

  16. Try to continue with Farseer! I am currently reading Fool‘s Fate and I am still loving these books. Can‘t wait to return to the Rain Wilds of the Liveship Traders after this.

Descender was an excellent comic and Monstress as well, although I haven‘t read the last volume yet. I also still need to read the last volume of Saga…

    • Veronica

I definitely intend to, I’ve been slacking lol! I’m glad you’re loving the series! I’m glad to hear you loved Descender and Monstress too and I have been wanting to start Saga, perhaps when I finish one of these it’ll be my reward haha😂

  17. I love Robin Hobb but I haven’t finished the Assassin’s Apprentice series either. I’d also forgotten about the Carissa Broadbent series, it’s on my TBR! I totally relate about having so much more than ten series to feature on this list!

    • Veronica

Oh I’m so glad to hear that it’s not just me haha 😝! & Yeah there really is an endless number of series let’s be real lol.

  18. I really need to start The Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten, it has been sitting on my Kindle for way too long! How did you like it? 😊

    • Veronica

Aha yeah all my ebooks sit on my ereader for a long time so I can relate! I read the first one years ago but I remember really liking it, the details are fuzzy now though 😂.
