Hey bookworm friends. I hope you’re all staying hydrated in this terrible heat. This week’s TTTopic is tough because top 10 books by new to me authors I want to read is incredibly broad! I could almost throw my entire TBR on there! That being said, it’s also a really fun one so I decided to narrow it down by picking the books and authors that have been wiggling around in my mind for a while. Maybe it’s been mentioned on booktube or by a friend, or maybe I borrowed it from the library and had to return it. Either way, they stand out in my mind and I’ve done nothing about it yet! Here’s hoping I can get to some soon.

Emily Tesh is generally really good, but I haven’t read Some Desperate Glory yet; it’s on my list…

Ooh, I see two faves on here: Buffalo Hunter Hunter and Some Desperate Glory. The former is one that I will never stop raving about because it took me so completely by surprise and it wound up being my fave read of 2025. The latter also took me so completely by surprise because I started out almost hating it (mostly cos of characters) but then omg, the way it had me deep in my feels. SO good! I hope you love these whenever you get to them 😍

Lots of familiar covers here, but I haven’t read them. I tried one by Anne McCaffrey, but DNFed it. I hope they will be great discoveries for you

The only one here that I’ve read is The Buffalo Hunter Hunter — and I was in the minority for this one, since I just didn’t love it (or even like it) as much as I’d hoped to. I feel like Anne McCaffrey is a big gap in my reading, and I really should correct that!
Ah fair enough, I guess Buffalo Hunter Hunter isn’t for everyone and that’s okay (is any book really? haha). I feel the exact same way like McCaffrey is a huge gap for me as well, so many friends are always singing her praises and I haven’t read enough SFF by women from that era.
Some Desperate Glory is very good, I love Emily Tesh!

I have read Dragonflight – initially as the original short story and then as the book. I loved the series, or at least as much as I read of it at the time. I am wanting to read the last of Anne’s solo books in the series.
I have that Parry book out from the library at the moment, though it will probably be returned unread to be borrowed another day.
Well, I did not know it was originally a short story so that’s cool! I hope you can read the last of her solo books in the series when you’re able then! 🙂

Ooh nice picks! Some new to me ones here! I just started reading some of Elise Kova’s books! Tessonja Odette is one I started reading a few years ago as well, but still making my way through the rest of her backlist! I kept buying them direct from her so the pile is pretty high but I did read the Entangled with Fae series and loved them!

Stephen Graham Jones and H.G. Parry are two of my favourite authors, so I hope you enjoy both of them! R. J. Barker’s ‘Bone Ships’ has been on my TBR for an age, though I am hoping to pick it up at some point this year.

Ooh, Anne McCaffrey! I really love the Pern books, though some of them have aged better than others.
I’m so glad to hear that but I can certainly believe it. I feel like I really need to read more women in SFF from that era in general.
Another ringing endorsement for lots of these, but The Bone Ships in particular. One of the most satisfying 3 book character-arc journeys I’ve ever read.
