It’s Monday, Let’s Catch Up │#15

Hey bookworm friends. This weekend was a really lovely one where I got to see a lot of friends and family🥰. It was also weirdly warm but at least that means the giant piles of snow have melted, hurray! And now I’m ready for a new week of more reading and less scrollin’ on social media. Ready, get set, It’s Monday, Let’s Catch up!

Music Monday

I recently discovered the band Beyond the Black with their new album that just came out in January and I really loved the album title track Break The Silence. As well as being catchy it’s also a great message for the days we’ve been having. The second song I’m sharing is an oldie but a goodie. A live (& orchestral) performance of Untouched by the Veronicas, or as I like to call them ‘the me’s” 😝. It had me absolutely entranced and I was so impressed and gave me a deeper appreciation of this song I’ve loved for years!

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Just Finished

Immersive Reading

Finished Wyrd Sisters and I had a really fun time with it. I’m looking forward to reading more about these witches, I enjoyed the characters so much!

Currently Reading

Physical

Charlotte, Leslie, Dini & I are continuing our buddy read of The Memoirs of Lady Trent and we’re onto The Voyage of the Basilisk now, I’m not very far in yet but I am loving it, I’ve missed being in this world with Isabella.

Audiobook

Listening to the Greenteeth audio and I’m a bit past the half-way point. Enjoying it overall but I got to a point where something happened I don’t like so I’m taking a small break before I go back to it.

Physical

A friend of mine was reading Frontier and the art alone made me borrow it from my library. They only had the French version so I took it as a sign that I need to practice reading my French, something I haven’t done for fun in years!

Up Next

Ebook

Next buddy read lined up is for The Emilie Adventures. My friends and I have been wanting to read this together for so long and it’s finally time. I have been wanting to try more from Martha Wells since I read a few Murderbot books but dnf’d the series.

Stacking The Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, whether it be physical or virtual. Reading Reality posts on Saturdays but you can post any day that works for you— don’t forget to visit the link-up on Saturday to join in on the fun!

This week I’m mostly stacking the shelves with books we purchased, which is kind of rare. I have been wanting to read Emily Wilson’s translation of The Iliad for a long while! My husband and I were talking about the Odyssey movie that’s coming out this year and how I’m excited to watch it! There’s a huge wait list for Emily Wilson’s translations at my library so we decided just to get them for ourselves. We went to a local fantasy indie book store called Bakka-Phoenix and it was so fun to browse and see what they had. He likes reading Chuck Tingle horror books so he added one of them to our cart.
There’s also another indie ARC I signed up for, and my current library borrow which will be my first light novel ever!

Looks like a good week. We had rain and melting too but still have some pretty big snow piles. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

    • Veronica

It was, thank you Kathy! 😀 I can’t wait til all the snow is gone haha 🙂 Thank you for visiting.

    • Veronica

Ahaha right? Kind of surprising to be honest 😂.

    • Veronica

Thank you, Yvonne 😀 Wishing you a happy week too!

  2. Catchy music. Love all these unique covers. I haven’t read The Odyssey in decades. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.

Thanks, Cheryl, I’m glad you liked the music too :D! Ah, I hope you enjoyed it even if it was a while ago! & My pleasure 😀

  3. I’m glad the weather is improving for you.
Good luck reading The Iliad and The Odyssey , I found both to be a slog though to be fait I was a teenager at the time,
    .
Wishing you a lovely reading week

    • Veronica

Thanks!! Yes I can imagine they are not easy to get through but I think think the translation can make a big difference so I want to give it another shot and I have high hopes 🤞🏼. I hope you have a lovely reading week as well! 😀

  4. It’s been years since I’ve read Terry Pratchett. I need to give him a look again. I’ll be interested to know what you think of the Martha Wells. It’s a shame you didn’t like the Murderbot series. It’s one of my favorites.

I understand what you mean about taking a break from a book when you don’t like something that happens. Sometimes I need a mini break when the author switches to another viewpoint character. Ha!

Also, thanks for leaving your link on your comment. So helpful!

Ah nice, yes I’ve only read 2 Discworld books so far so I’m hoping to get more into him :)! And I didn’t dislike the Murderbook books, I enjoyed them up to book 4 I think but I believe it was the first non-novella one that lost me, I just stopped being invested.
aaha yess I’m so glad you know what I meant, I just feel like it threw off my groove 😂!

I often find it awkward to leave my link, but I’ve been trying to get less shy about that so I’m glad you found it helpful 😊! I hope you have a great week!

Ah yaay, I’m so curious to see how they will do everything and the cast looks good! Also, some of her books are only ‘library borrows’ which you can’t take home, so frustrating! lol

  5. Woo I recognise a song you’ve shared although the live version of it is new to me. I loved the album that had Untouched on it though.

I didnt know you’d DNFed the Murderbot series, I hope you get on better with the Emilie one. I hope you get on okay whenever you return to Greenteeth too. And buddy reading the Lady Trent series is so much fun. I adore the writing style of them 🥰

Im really looking froward to The Odyssey movie too not only do I adore Greek mythology but I usually think Nolan’s movies are fantastic. Hope you enjoy the translations. Heretic looks interesting too, although I havent heard of the series its linked to.

Hope you have a wonderful month 🥰

    • Veronica

Wooo omg we did it, Finally lol ! This live version is so good!! Yes they have such great songs 🙂
Ah yeah I was listening to the Murderbot Diaries with my husband years ago but when we got to book 5 I think? we both kind of just lost interest. Thanks, I started the Emilie one yesterday so we shall see haha 🙂 Ohh and I ended up sadly not loving Greenteeth that was disappointing but oh well 🤷🏼‍♀️. Yes thank goodness for our Buddy read coz it’s my fav read of the month!

Yessss of course you’re also excited, yaaayy 🥰!! We can gush together once we’ve both watched it! Heretic is an indie book and I hadn’t heard of it before either but the cover and description got to me. It sounds cool. I hope you’re having a wonderful month too 🖤!!

      • It had to happen eventually 😂😂

Ah did they get repetitive or something then if you managed to reach that point in the series? Thats a shame about Greenteeth. Im glad Lady Trent became such a fond favourite for you though 🥰🥰

Very true, I can’t wait to exchange thoughts with you on it. I look forward to learning more about it from you ❤️
