Top 10 SFF Indie Books I Read & Loved!

Top 10 SFF Indie Books I Read & Loved!

Hey bookworm friends. I really liked the idea of last week’s Genre Freebie and I fully meant to participate but time got away from me! So I’ll be going rogue this week, not something I typically do 😝! Last week I loved Leslie’s take on the genre freebie where she talked about indie books she loved 🖤. I’ve been loving a lot of indie books myself too so I figured now is the perfect chance to highlight some Sci-Fi & Fantasy Indie Books I Read & Loved! A lot of these are whole series so I’m just using the first book to represent the series.

Indie books need all of the love! Thanks for the recs

    • Veronica

I agree, they really do 🙂 Thanks!

  2. I love this idea for Top Ten Tuesday—you should suggest it for a future TTT! I used to be very wary of self-published/indie books, after getting burned by a few really terrible ones early on. As more traditionally-published authors like Stephanie Burgis and Ilona Andrews branched into indie publishing, I began to branch out. Then I began discovering some indie-only authors that I really love, like Celia Lake. From your list, I loved the Innkeeper Chronicles. Tilly Wallace and Olivia Atwater are already on my list to try. I’ll check out some of your reviews to see the other books on this list appeal to me!

    • Veronica

Thank you, maybe I should that’s not a bad idea at all! TTT would be a great place to get so many new indie recs!
I understand the wariness since I’ve read some not so great indie books but I’ve also read atrocious trad published books so I just learned that there’s all kinds in both 😂 I super want to read Stephanie Burgis books so many of her titles sound appealing I just haven’t tried any yet! I hope you enjoy any of the ones here that you might pick up and thank you for visiting!!

    • Veronica

I’m glad you thought so too! I enjoyed it quite a bit!! 😀

    • Veronica

Ahaha amazing! I can’t wait to see what you think of a bunch of these and I’m a massive Penric and Desdemona fan I will never shut up about those books so that makes me so happy to hear 😀 🥰!

    • Veronica

I really loved it and I would say that if you can, listen to the audiobook it’s excellent, narrated by the author and I loved it.

  3. These sounds so interesting. Manners and Monsters especially caught my attention. Sounds like a whole lot of fun and probably witty to boot. Thanks for sharing these!

    • Veronica

Ah yes Manners and Monsters is fun and witty that’s an accurate description. I loved that whole series. Thanks for visiting 🥰!!

    • Veronica

They’re some of my absolute fav books and the reason I no longer dislike novellas basically 😂 And I also want to read more from Bujold! Thank you 🙂 !!

    • Veronica

It is so so good I love that series, hope you can catch up on it soon 🙂 !

  4. Great list! I am nearly done with the Manners and Monsters series, and enjoying it. I’ve read some of Olivia Atwater’s books, but I haven’t read anything by Nicholas & Olivia together yet. And Penric’s Demon has been on my shortlist to “read soon” for longer than I like to admit! Hopefully I’ll actually pick it up and read it soon.

    • Veronica

Oh yay, that’s so great to hear, happy you’re enjoying it! & I haven’t read anything by Olivia by herself yet but I do have one of her books! 🙂 Ahhh I hope you can get to Penric soon, I know that feeling so no judgement from me but I would love to hear your thoughts if/when you do get to it!

    • Veronica

Thank you for visiting, Shellyrae 🥰!

    • Veronica

Ahah a genre freebie just has endless potential! 😀 Thank you!

  5. Ooh, I should probably know this considering I’ve read the book already but I didn’t realise Clean Sweep was indie 😍 I love Ilona Andrews and I will shout about their books forever! Hehe… I have A Matter of Execution on my TBR wishlist already (I’m just waiting for a price drop or a better time to purchase the ebook, lol) but I also am waiting for Cello’s Gate to release on Kindle UK in November. Looking forward to giving it a go as it’s one indie I keep hearing about. I’m now adding Moon Soul to my TBR cos I love that cover and it sounds so good. Great post!

    • Veronica

I think it’s kind of confusing because Ilona Andrews have trad pub books and indie books so I often am unsure as well but pretty sure this series is indie haha. Yay I’m so glad, I definitely need to read more books from them 🙂
Oh yay I’m so glad to hear that, here’s hoping it drops to an ok price soon then lol
Yesss Cello’s Gate, I can’t wait for you to read that one too!
& Moon Soul is one that I enjoyed so much that I am now on the author’s street team because he has his own indie publishing company with his best friend, it’s so cute! Thanks, Dini 😀

  6. I’m hesitant to read indies since I’ve been burned so many times, but I know there are good ones out there. I’m glad you enjoyed these, they are tempting😁

    • Veronica

I guess a good middle ground would be to read indies that have been picked up by trad publishing but honestly yeah there are a lot of good Indies out there! I will say a lot of the ones I’ve tried have been through the library and Hoopla and I find I don’t mind taking chances that way hehe 🙂 I’m glad some of these look tempting to you though!

  7. Great list!

The local library carries four of these authors: Annabel Chase, Lois McMaster Bujold, Tilly Wallace, and Ilona Andrews. Added their titles to my library Wish List. 💚

    • Veronica

Thank you, I’m glad you liked the list and I’m even more glad your library carries a bunch of those! I hope you love any that you might try and thanks for visiting my blog 🥰!

    • Veronica

Thank you! And ohh that’s great, hope you enjoy any that you try :D!

    • Veronica

Right? I read Moon Soul because of the cover but ended up loving it, it gave me so much comfort.

  8. I haven’t read any of these but I’m definitely keen to explore a few – I’ve read Olivia Atwater before and enjoyed her storytelling and also Manners and Monsters by Tilly Wallace is calling to me.
    Lynn 😀

    • Veronica

Ah yay I’m glad some of these sound good to you 🙂 I’ve been really wanting to read more Olivia Atwater and I loved Manners and Monsters so I’d be keen to know your thoughts if you did read it.
