It’s Monday, Let’s Catch Up │#17

Hey bookworm friends. I just got back from a long walk with Cheeto because it’s sunny and warm today! This weekend was really nice; went to our usual board game cafe, hung out at home, and I took my mom out for an early mother’s day outing. Saturday evening was annoying though because the electricity on my block died twice. I did take advantage and read for a bit until there was no more light to read by 😂. It’s been a while since I last checked in for an It’s Monday, Let’s Catch up, so here goes!

Music Monday

Both songs I’m sharing for Music Monday this week are from Finnish rock bands! I did not do it on purpose but I do tend to like a lot of bands from Finland. Black Waters is a previously unreleased song that will be included in the 20th anniversary vinyl of Carnival of Rust. Circles is a really great song but I only heard of it because Lord of the Lost’s Chris Harms is a big fan of it. It does make me think I need to listen to more of this band.

Album: Carnival Of Rust 20th Anniversary Vinyl
 Release Date: May 8 2026
Genre: Alternative Rock

Circles by Rain Diary

Album: Single (AFAIK)
Year Released: 2021
Genre: Synth Rock / Dark Wave

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Just Finished

Ebook

Recently finished Red and the Wolves: A Graphic Novel. It was a fun queer retelling of the fairy tale and I liked the direction it went in with flipping the wolf and grandma characters.

Currently Reading

Physical

I started Hollow Kingdom this weekend which is a buddy read and I’m obsessed with this author’s writing style. I have a feeling this will be a new absolute favourite but time will tell.

Audiobook

Cursed Cocktails is the first book I picked up for Read Indie SFF Month. It’s really sweet so far and I’m enjoying the magical world it’s set in so far. It’s kind of reminding me of The Spellshop.

Up Next

Ebook

I hope to pick up That Which Follows You Home soon which is this month’s H.I.V.E Tribe book club pick.

Physical

Another book club pick, The Vanished Birds is for my irl book club and I can’t wait to get to it!

  1. I can’t say I’ve listened to Finnish bands before – I’ll have to check more of them out. Thanks for linking up with me!

    • Veronica

Ah yes, I do highly recommend you check some out, I’ve happened to love a bunch of them and then coming to the realization that Finland has so much great talent! Some of my favourites throughout the years (aside from the ones I’ve shared here) are HIM, Nightwish, and The Rasmus.

  2. Sounds like a wonderful sunny day! I’ve just added a few more books to my TBR radar/wishlist from this post. Red and the Wolves, Slime Sweet and Dungeon Treats, and That Which Follows You Home all look really good. I’ve had The Fox Wife on my TBR for what feels like ages now, and I really need to get around to it. I hope you enjoy all of your reads and have a great week ahead!

It was so lovely and now it’s been raining all week lol. Oh wow that’s great I’m glad a few of these titles have appealed to you! 🙂 Red and the Wolves was fun and darker than I expected too. I’m hoping to start That Which Follows you home today. Oh nice haha well if you ever want to buddy rad The Fox Wife let me know since we both have it now, haha! Thank you, I hope you have a great week too, Dini 💕

Oh my gosh okay I can definitely see why, I am loving it and laughing a LOT! Plus so worried about all of these animals, I’m so invested and the writing style is so weird in the best way!

  3. Your ARCs look great!
Also, I need to get my hands on the Winnie the Pooh Graphic novel. They were a favourite of mine as a child! I loved them.

    • Veronica

      Thanks, Sara! 🙂
Ah yes, Winnie the Pooh is one of my childhood favs as well so I can relate. In fact I realized I was wearing a Pooh tshirt the day I wrote this post 😂! I hope you can get your hands on it! 🖤

    • Veronica

Me too, and thank you! Aww I love that silly ‘ol bear and that’s so cute..no shame here, teddy bears bring comfort 💕

  4. The Wayward Souls of Avalon looks really interesting! I also very much enjoyed The Essex Serpent when I read it (back when it came out). I remember that it then also showed up on one of my English Literature exams as an “unseen text” which was pretty funny – the only time I’ve ever read the “unseen text” in an exam hehe.

    • Veronica

I’ve got an ARC of The Wayward Souls of Avalon so I’ll definitely be sharing my thoughts on it when I can. I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed Essex Serpent, I’ve had it in my sights since it came out and it sounds great to me! Oh wow that’s interesting, what does an ‘unseen text’ mean in an English Lit context? Like that it’s not very well known?
