It’s Monday, Let’s Catch Up │#20

Hey bookworm friends. I’m getting back into my usual swing of things after coming back from a very action filled vacation. Which means it’s a perfect time to do an It’s Monday, Let’s Catch up. I’m mostly still slowly reading the same books from my last Monday update but I’ve finished a few other things in between in the meantime. Wishing you all very happy reading and an even happier week! 🖤

Music Monday

Two of my recent listens:
1. The title track of Twin Temple’s upcoming album, Doomed Lovers. So excited for new music from this duo.
2. An oldie but a goodie that brings me so much joy every time; it’s so catchy and reminds me of a friend. I also hate that I just referred to a song from 2017 as an ‘oldie’ 🥴.

Album: Doomed Lovers
 Release Year: 2026
Genre: Rock and Roll / Satanic Doo-Wop

Star Rider by Hällas

Album: Excerpts from a Future Past
Release Year: 2017
Genre: Hard Rock/ Blues Rock

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Just Finished

Ebook

I finished Think of England on vacation and I really enjoyed it, I was expecting the romance but I wasn’t expecting the mystery and the drama! My first KJ Charles but definitely not my last!

Audiobook

Finished A Ghastly Catastrophe yesterday and I loved being with Veronica and Stoker again! I loved the vampire theme of the mystery but I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending. Weirdly enough, it was very similar to the ending of Think of England in some ways.

Currently Reading

Ebook

I’ve been reading the Universal Monsters graphic novels and I started The Invisible Man one last night when I couldn’t sleep. So far, I find the MC makes a hate-able villain.

I’m also still slowly reading Dreams of Distant Shores by Patricia A. McKillip and Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare. I hope to make a bigger dent this week.

Up Next

Physical+Audio

My buddy read of The Memoirs of Lady Trent with Dini, Charlotte, and Leslie will continue with the fourth installment very soon and I can’t wait!

Stacking The Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, whether it be physical or virtual. Reading Reality posts on Saturdays but you can post any day that works for you— don’t forget to visit the link-up on Saturday to join in on the fun!

I haven’t purchased any new books or grabbed any freebies lately so the only shelf I’m stacking is my library borrows shelf. My library finally got the 4th vol. of the Wynd graphic novel which I’ve been trying to get my hands on for a while! So I decided to do a reread of the series because I love it! The library holds gifted me with the 1st and 4th at the same time. I also got my hold of Hell’s Heart just in time for an august buddy read. I am so ready!

  1. Oh that’s interesting about KJ Charles. I haven’t read anything by the author but I have been seeing the name around, great you enjoyed the book.

    • Veronica

Thank you, yes I really enjoyed the historical mystery and I always want to read more of those!

    • Veronica

Thanks, Yvonne I hope you have a great week as well 😀

    • Veronica

I have to say both of those were great and they have a good deal in common the more I think about it but I think I preferred Think of England even though the Veronica Speedwell series is one of my favourites! I love the cover for Hell’s Heart too and I hope so too, thanks :D!

    • Veronica

The Universal Monsters books have been fun in general though I’m not really sure I’m loving this one. Sadly the book was just entertainment while I couldn’t sleep, I wish it was that good haha!!

    • Veronica

I do love some genre mixing and thanks, there are so many of her titles that sound appealing to me!

    • Veronica

Ohh yay I love that series so much, I’m always excited when people want to read it! Happy reading to you as well 🙂 !

  2. I’m excited to crack on with our next buddy read as well! 😃 I’m curious to see where Isabella’s adventures take her next and whether we’ll bump into and learn more about a certain gentleman in this one (I really hope we do, lol)! 👀 I’d never heard of the WYND graphic novels before, but I’ve read something by James Tynion IV (The Woods graphic novel series) and remember enjoying that a lot, so might see if I can get my hands on this one cos it looks like fun. I hope you have a great rest of the week and enjoy all the books you read!

    • Veronica

Yesss me too!🐉 So curious about what’s going to happen next and I have no guesses! I hope so too🤞🏼;)!
Ah, I want to read that series by James Tynion IV as well, I feel like he’s written a lot! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed that series and I highly recommend Wynd. If you do try it I’d love to know what you think and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week too!!🥰

  3. I love the vibes of Star Rider – I also think it has a ‘oldie’ sound to it even if 2017 should DEFINITELY not count as ‘old’. Will definitely be checking out this band to add to my playlist.

    • Veronica

Oh awesome I’m so glad you enjoyed Star Rider as well and yess it definitely reminds me of the 80s and maybe that’s why it feels like an oldie spiritually lmao. It makes me happy to hear when people enjoy songs I share and I love seeing what people listen to and adding them to my lists too, so thank you 🥰!

  4. Another fan of Wynd! I know Tynion is a big name so I shouldn’t be surprised, but he does a great job with epic fantasy plotlines in a comic format, which I’ve found tend to not go together very well. Fingers crossed the finale will be as excellent as the rest of the books!

    • Veronica

Ahhh yay, I don’t know too many other people who have read Wynd so I’m excited to hear that! I’m currently also reading some of the Universal Monsters short graphic novels he’s done but aside from that I need to explore his catalog more. A few of his series caught my eye and I’m so glad to hear you like the way he does epic fantasy plots in graphic novels, I have to agree based on what I’ve read so far. I hope the ending is strong because I feel like we’ve been waiting for it for so long!

    • Veronica

My pleasure, Lauren! And it’s wild because in reality it’s not that far away but so much has happened since that it almost feels like another lifetime sometimes lol.
